Sure, I could have just made a full-on blaster, but I'm trying something a little different by going with a blaster-like concept that adds more defense. I poked around here and got some ideas, so let's see how this is conceptually...

If this is a new concept, I'm surprised that you've opted for the Fitness pool, since it'll be inherent in the next week or so. Also, you seem to have slotted for resistance, when it should be relatively easy to soft-cap your defense with those sets.

If you took out Fitness, I'd add Weave. I'd slot Weave, Maneuvers and Hover for Defense, too.

I'd take Power Build Up over Force of Nature, too. 80% damage buff, instead of extra resistance with a crash. I *think* PBU hoofs up your defense, too, so you can use it to take alphas from time to time.

I'd recommend Hasten, too.

For Aim, as it's only two slots, I'd personally just use two recharge IO's, as I'd rather it were up more often for damage reasons, not for tohit reasons. Set-wise, I'd be surprised if you don't already have enough accuracy to make most things 95% of hitting before using Aim.

It's very possible to make a tough as nails IO'd Force Field Defender. I'd say its the best way to get a ranged/armoured character within the archetype system we have, at least the least concept intrusive one.
I'd stick to positional defences (Melee, Ranged, AoE) rather than typed (smashing, lethal etc), since the two are redundant with each other often.

I agree that Weave is well worth it for this kind of build.

Your basic defence numbers are:

Dispersion (slotted) - 16%
Hover - 2.5%
Weave (slotted) -8%
Steadfast Unique in Tough - 3%
Manouvers (slotted) 5.5%

= 36% vs everything, better than Super reflexes alone.

Three Thunderstrike sets cap Ranged Defence, thats the easy one.

For AoE I'd go two Aegis (Temp Invuln and Tough) and whatever else, maybe the full set of Performance Shifter in Stamina. The extra end from the proc helped too. That and the BotZ should be enough.

Melee is less of a worry if you Hover and have Repulsion Field.

Combat Jumping is a good pick too, for an extra 2.5% to all, 4% if 3-slotted just for Defence. Might be worth picking that up in I19?

I'm not sure about Energy Blast as a great secondary - depends on your Huge Fairy concept I guess if anything else fits.
I love Energy and FF, but together they overlap too much - too much knockback and too much defensive power. I really dug FF/Sonic as a pairing, and would recommend that if it fits your character in any way.

Mike makes great suggestions for the the defense. but have you thought of maybe ice instead of energy? its a good solid blast set with some controls tossed in and an excellent nuke. ice by default could be thrown into a fairy concept (ice fairy anyway..i know im stretching here) or you could chang the colors to look like something else but I think it'd be a good addition to your character personally.

For a defender, ice is better than energy in both area and single target damage, but energy is better defensively. If energy torrent and explosive blast are well slotted, you can spam them all over a group and the knockback will stop the enemies from fighting back effectively. There's a high risk of scatter, but someone that can use cones well and knows have to minimize the scatter of knockback can tank for a team without messing up enemy placement too much.

If you can live with the eye beams in Radiation I bet that would look really awesome on a fairy character. You even have Exploding Fairy Dust and Mushroom powers.

Thanks for the input so far...

I should have said that this isn't a new concept since she's actually at 42. I DO have an ice fairy, but she's an ally NPC in an arc I'm writing up. I could have went rad, but she was made before Power Spectrum and I really didn't want the yellow-green (chartreuse?) stuff. Ice is a great set, but again, something different - and not so common.

@Biscuits: I just whipped up this 18 version since the 19 client won't work for me yet. Of course, I was going to wedge in a few more powers with Fitness becoming inherent. I just didn't think it'd be that soon. ^_^;
Points taken on the slotting though.

@Mike: Good stuff. Between you and Biscuits, I might achieve a better sense of "balance"...or something...
