Domination Questions

So I'm making a Mid's plan for a Mind/Energy Assault/Primal Forces Dom (if anyone has any special advice to these combo's that's great too). I only have 1 other Dom, and it's a lv50 Fire/Psi, it's horrible (I know, if I screwed up a fire/psi I did something really wrong).

First; what exactly does Domination buff? For instance, I toggled it back and forth and Whirling Hands' disorient was left unchanged.

And the same question for EA's Power Boost. This one modifies Whirling Hands. But it seems neither affect Knockback.

I have read that the alignment Frenzy power fills the dom bar, does it still buff damage any(Frenzy)? (understandable if it doesn't since Dom does, which just about every Dominator will hit promptly after hitting Frenzy )

Hmm, doesn't Domination buff damage now? Why doesn't Mid's factor it in? (I guess it could be some crazy formula that only Castle has in his head, where each individual power from each set gets a different buff or something. Wouldn't be the first time lmao)

Sorry if anything is blatantly wrong here, Mid's has been crashing for days now when I do random things with "Unhandled Exception" errors. I also managed to do something to it tonight to make it ignore Domination effects on every power that only re-launching it fixed lol.

Domination doubles the mag and duration of all your mezzes, while giving you mez protection. It doesn't buff damage anymore like it used to.

Which secondary effects are considered "mez"?

Sleep, Hold, Stun, Fear, Immobilize, Confuse.
Edited to add: I'm pretty sure Domination does boost the stuns in energy assault. I haven't played my Grav/Energy in a while, but I do seem to remember Bonesmasher getting boosted by Domination.

Oh and the reason Domination no longer boosts damage is because the damage scalar of the AT was increased across the board in Issue 15. We no longer need the damage boost from Domination as we essentially have it all the time.

In theory Domination increases the magnitude of every mez type except for knockback. In practice it doesn't work for certain powers, primarily ones that onyl have a change to mez (such as Whirling Hands).

The reason for this is a little complicated. Due to the way powers work Domination doesn't actually change anything in the mez power. Instead what happens is that Dominator control powers actually deal two different mezzes with each application. One has the normal magnitude and duration and always activates. The other has the same magnitude and 50% longer duration but only activates if Domination is active. Take Dominate, it's standard hold is 17.88s and mag 3. In Domination it also deals a second mag 3 hold of 26.82s duration. The net effect is that when Domination is active it will apply a mag 6 hold for 17.88s and a then a mag 3 hold for 8.94s.

So what does this mean for powers like Whiling Hands? Normally it deals a mag 2 stun but only has a 30% change of doing so. The problem is that devs can't make it so that in Domination this stun is increased to mag 4, they can only add a second mag 2 stun with it's own proc chance. So the devs had pretty much three choices for how to handle it in Domination:
1. Add a second 30% change for mag 2 stun
2. Add a 100% change for mag 2 stun
3. Have it not affected by Domination

The first option would effectively increase the chance for the stun to proc rather than increase the magnitude (you'd have a 42% chance for mag 2 stun and 9% chance for mag 4). The second option would turn the power into a guaranteed stun against minions while in Domination which the devs presumably found undesirable. So their solution was to go for option 3 and have the power unaffected by Domination (which is probably considered acceptable since it's primarily an attack not a mez).

For some powers (such as Bonesmasher) they went with option 1, presumably because the mez change was higher (60%) so it has a good change of actually doubling the magnitude without drastically increasing the overall chance to mez (48% chance of mag 3 and 36% chance fo mag 6).

I hope that clarifies it a bit.

Thanks, I did notice it affected Bone Smasher, this explains it. Any idea as to what Power Boost effects?

Power Boost effectively adds additional enhancement to any power that takes the following enhancement types (obviously it isn't affected by ED since it isn't actually adding enhancements):
Healing
Controls (Stun, Sleep, Confused, Terrorized, Immobilize, Held)
Defense Buff/Debuff
To Hit Buff/Debuff
Run Speed Buff/Debuff
Flying Speed Buff/Debuff
Endurance Modification

The only exceptions are if the power is a pet or is tagged to not benefit from external buffs. This latter case mostly comes about in powers that buff Resistance (such as the shields in Cold Domination).

So post-i19 do you think it would boost your regen/recov from boosting the fitness powers? That'd be cool haha. What's strange is you explained the reasoning behind Dom not affecting Whirling Hands, but Power Boost double's it's stun duration...hmm. I wonder how.

Edit: Just checked the fitness thing, it doesn't change them as pools so that's a no for when they go inherent. I guess because they're auto? Or flagged maybe lol.

The reason for this that Power Boost does not affect regeneration or recovery, which are different from healing and endurance modification. Power Boost will increase straight heals like those in Empathy and powers that drain endurance such as Electric Fences or Transference.

I saw last night after I posted that, that powerboost buffs the defense of my Hover, Weave and CJ, so that is cool . (I remember reading it buffed Def earlier in the thread, it just didn't click it would affect this Dom, was thinking more for a melee toon.)
