DM/SR or DM/Regen?

Which one goes better with dark melee? SR has good DDR and Regen has self heals and an anti-mez toggle. I am leaning towards regen but I'd like a second opinion on this.

I'd go with Super Reflexes. Regen already has plenty of healing and endurance recovery, and extra healing and endurance recovery are a big portion of what Dark Melee brings to the table. Seems wasted on Regen, but is exactly what Super Reflexes is looking for.

I also vote for /SR.

I've been playing one of my older characters a lot lately because she's my badger, and I18 opened up lots of badges. I'm fairly often surprised how helpful SL is even on a /Regen, for when you're taking a beating but you're between click heals or what-have-you. I also like the debuff in DM for beating down otherwise annoying bosses, who start missing you a lot. (Clearly that works best if you also have +defense to work with.)

All that said, DM is going to do more for a /SR than I think it does for a /Regen. The fact that a /Regen can notice the healing is really a good indicator of how effective Siphon Life really is. Now imagine that on an SR, who can be one of the most damage avoiding characters in the game under all circumstances. Adding a heal like that on top? Yes, please. (Note I don't have and may never have a DM/SR, but it's a very, very strong combo for raw survivability.)

Don't forget to at least consider DM/Shield. It takes more fiddling and this more investment, but with IOs you can get a Shield to the same +defense levels as an SR, nearly the same defense debuff resistance, and have a +damage aura that's just rude on a Scrapper.

One of the nice things about having high defense is being able to pile into a bunch of stuff and pop Soul Drain. I'm pretty addicted to that on my DM/Regen now, who has ready access to at least bursts of high defense through Shadow Meld and of course, Moment of Glory. Whatever secondary you pick, saturated Soul Drain and a well-aimed Shadow Maul is a wondrous thing.

If you want to look at the sets from a purely mathematical standpoint, there is a thread that shows you how to do that. Super Reflexes is more survivable, unless Regeneration gets a significant amount of defense bonus from sets and pool powers. I'm not even sure if it is possible to make a build with enough defense for Regeneration to be better than SR.

Don't forget about Shield Defense. It does everything SR does, but instead of a recharge bonus, you get a damage buffing taunt aura.

Well, DDR is a big boon to /SR too. /SR caps DDR, but /SD can't cap.

Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.

Yes it can. My Fire/Shield has capped DDR except for a short period while the double-stack of Active Defense drops. Add some more recharge and I could remove that drop, but I was balancing a lot of different priorities. I still prefer Super Reflexes' version, since recharge can be debuffed and since clicking takes time. Plus it takes some serious work to pull off on Shield Defense, while it's easy easy on Super Reflexes.

If we're still confining ourselves to Dark Melee, I'd say you're correct. But I think something like a Katana/Regen could do it, and that it might do even better comparatively with I19. I haven't actually started on my I19 builds yet, though, so all I have are rough ideas of what I'm doing and rough ideas of how much survivability I'll get. I think my Dark Melee/Super Reflexes is going to get much better. But I think my Katana/Regen is going to get massively better.

I have come up with a build for regen and a build for sr. They are below. I am trying to get softcapped so feel free to analyze it and post your replies.

chipping in here since I love my DM/SR. Things I can tell you about THAT build (not going to say much if anything about DM/Regen as... well it's just completely reduntant. I think DM/SR is a better match :-P).

Personally I wouldn't slot the gaussian set in Soul Drain. It has a to-hit check and you want that thing to hit every target, every time. If you can afford it, I like to 5 slot it with Armaggedon, though in lieu of that I wouldn't be above frankenslotting it just to get the best numbers. Don't need to worry about damage as much, but it's nice to have also since you have so little AoE with DM.

Take hasten. (ok, so again everything here is subjective from my experience >_>) Even though your secondary requires almost no recharge, your primary benefits from it immensely. Obviously you want soul drain and dark consumption up as much as possible, not to mention your heavy hitters.

For APP pools, I usually like either body mastery (For end management and focused acc), weapon mastery (targetting drone and an AoE) or Blaze mastery (for straight up dps.). The reason I try for one of the acc boosters is to use that gaussian set we took out of soul drain, as obviously the 6 slot bonus is immensely helpful to an SR. If you go with blaze mastery, you can also 4 slot basilisk's gaze into char for a somewhat cheap 7.5% recharge buff, taking the place of a LotG (if you're keeping costs down).

Take quickness! It's fine to take it at 49, but take it! It's the same as dropping an extra recharge DO in every one of your powers, and makes getting perma hasten feasable.

Here's a medium budget build I whipped togather for fun... no purples or pvp IOs but a full set of LotG, which can had easily by doing merits and AMerits.

Okay so in looking at my own builds, I realize I skipped hasten altogether. So back to the drawing board, as they say.
