I'm having this problem too.
I initially managed to resolve it by downloading a new copy of the EU updater a few days ago, but now its just refusing to connect, continually cycles..
I've since tried re-installing, albeit via the US updater, but still no joy...

It took me over 100 attempts to connect earlier this afternoon - and I've just connected 3 times on the trot straight away now. Thanks for sorting this out (I feel it was worth lil ol' technophobe me doing all the trace stuff and sending it over now!)
