So, I'm going to fuss around with a Blaster focused on cone attacks. I'm thinking of the following slotting, with the goal of have an attack chain made of cone attacks and a few powers for utility purposes.Any advice or commentary would be great. I'm not going to put in any more purples though, as I don't want this to be a multi-billion inf build. Here goes:

Oops, I forgot to toss in Inherent Fitness, but with Drain Psyche I really don't need it much. It'll be handy, but I'll only keep the one basic IO in each.

The main thing I'd comment on here is that if your primary purpose is a cone-based blaster then MM as a secondary doesn't fit. Drain Psyche and PS are both PBAoE so to use them you'll be in close, yet cones don't work to their full effectiveness in close. You can potentially do a Sirens Song, jump in, fire off DS, fore off PS then jump out, fire off your cones, but then you'd be jumping back in for PS. Seems like a lot of work.

If you really want a cones-based blaster, look at AR/EM. Lots of cones on AR and when paired with Boost Range it is a thing of beauty (longer range on cones means more is in the area of effect). I love mine - and it works equally well solo or on teams.

Mental gives me a very good extra cone attack, though. Plus, while AR has Shotgun, Flamethrower is a DOT that takes a while to fully do it's damage. Plus, Drain Psyche - while forcing me into melee range to fire it - is so darn good that I'll happily trade it for Boost Range (Plus, it's good AV/GM debuff on a Blaster. A rare treat!). Psy Shockwave is there for those times when the bad guys won't stay in nice conic areas and insist on trying to punch me in the face. That's very rude behavior and they deserve the -recharge and chance for stun. Also, I like to team with Kinetics types, so as long as I am there getting a Fulcrum I may as well fire off a PBAOE, no?

AR is good for aoe, don't get me wrong. Half the reason I went Sonic though is that I already have 3 AR characters and I wanted to try something a little different. Plus my battle cry can be "I scream cones!".

So you're saying MM, the only blaster secondary with a cone, doesn't fit with a cone-based blaster setup?

Boost Range, while nice, won't help you get over the 10 target limit for cones.

**snip**

I like the capped ranged defense of that build (a lot), but I'm mostly focusing on having a solid attack chain made entirely of cone attacks.

It's a 'concept' character, maybe?

I hadn't thought of Bile Spray though. I might try that out..

The build is part conceptual but the concept just happens to fit my build tendencies. (pottymouth panda -> bile spray... get it? hahahaha I kill myself)

I didn't realize bile spray is on a 32s timer and that wouldn't go too well with your all cone attack chain. Still, howl recharges pretty fast and it's probably the better cone to spam on a team especially with the kb proc. Playstyle wise I envision a howl-spray-scream-howl volley, followed by PSW. For normal content that should be a lot of AoE damage to level most of the spawn, and then the ST attacks take over.

Go villain with it and take Soul Mastery.

Soul Mastery has NightFall (identical to the Dark Blast cone) and Soul Tentacles (a re-skinned version of Tenebrous Tentacles)

That would give you a total of FOUR cones, one of which is also an AoE immobilize, so you can keep them bunched up for more cone destruction.

You also get Dark Embrace, which is a pretty good Smashing/Lethal/Negative armor, and Oppressive Gloom , which will stun any minions that make it into melee range with you.

Oppressive Gloom will also give you more versatility, in that you can immobilize them with Soul Tentacles and hop into melee to fire Psychic Shockwave, which will stack with OGloom to stun even bosses.

If you really want a cone-based blaster, Soul Mastery is too good to pass up.

I'd say that really depends on how much you like the Immob and -ToHit. In my opinion Electric is just as good if not better for a cone APP complementing Sonic/Mental, due to the following reasons:

1. Arc. Static Discharge's 45 degree arc is much better compared with the narrow 20 and 25 degree arcs of Souls cones.

2. One power, short recharge. You only need to pick+slot one power for a full cone chain.

3. Frontloaded damage.

As for the other powers, Charged Armor covers the more common energy damage type, and while Oppressive Gloom is nice, you still have access to World of Confusion that deals with stray minions quite well and lets you slot the really cheap purple set.
