The downlow on Energy melee: it's a good single target set, but not very good at handling multiple targets. It has good burst damage, but that's set in two strong but slow to activate powers. (total focus/energy transfer) As such, use 'em wisely! If you use the lower tier attacks to pepper the weak targets, you'll build up fury steam..once fury is high, build up and use your big hitters on the heavy targets.
Your big hitters are best used as openers on an undamaged target, as they take a while, and will take out most of the target's hp. (Provided it's not an AV) Once the damage is inflicted, then you can judge whether to follow up with as second heavy-hitter or just a low attack. This way you don't waste time with the long windups just to kill a sliver of health. This is especially important on teams, where allies will finish stuff off for you often. (This avoids corpse blasting.) The higher the team's damage, the higher tier you save your heavy hitters for.
As far as sets go, EM/ is more boss killer, less minion lawnmower.
Super reflexes takes until SO's to 'feel' tough, and will take longer to feel invincible. If you knew this stuff, I apologize...just wanted to let you know how the stuff might work. (I use EM/ on my main brute, but my /SR experience is on a scrapper.)
I'm taking a look at that build. Not bad. Can I get a few more from other people?

Here's 1 I whipped up on the fly- nowhere near as many pricey Uniques as the other. BUT- you're softcapped to all 3 positions (ok.. AoE is at 44.4%...)and your End consumption is very small. You also get a hefty damage buff. Hasten isn't Perma, but about a 20 sec. downtime.

1) TF should be slotted for damage, its one of two of your heavy hitters.
2) Shifter Procs can save being underslotted in certain areas as will Incarnate Cardiac boost.
3) SR while being awesome softcapped, also doesn't need elude in the build at that point.
4) Layered resistances help for those few hits that do go through. So Tough helps quite a bit since a majority of powers deal lethal/smashing.
5) Aid Self while not required helps quite a bit since you're Def, you have time to heal and not get hit. Plus can save you from those times a large alpha hits you.
6) The damage bonus is nice, but you're an EM Brute. If damage is a problem, you're in trouble.
Granted the build is cheaper then what I posted. SR on a budget build can't really see its full potential IMO. It's worth rolling a farmer toon and grinding for really.
I have a good friend, who for some reason thinks Super Reflexes stinks in term's of building a good brute. He is a master of crafting brutes, and I am inclinded to believe him. However, I also want to prove him wrong. Is it possible to make a decent Energy Melee/ Super Reflexes Brute that is decent at 1v1? I wouldn't expect him to be as tough as say, a WP, or an Invuln, but tough enough that he doesn't face plant the ground instantly.
Could someone give me a decent mid's build for this? Cost of building him wouldn't be a problem.
