Win I started playing my Willpower/ Electric Melee I, for various reasons, ended up leveling to 50 rather quickly and I didn't realy have the time to carefully consider by build. Now with I19's free fitness pool and corresponding freespect I thought that it would be a good time to get it together. But looking through the forums I can't seem to find one thread on this particular powerset. So I'm seriously hoping that that you all will help me out here. What I what is survivability while soloing and TO NEVER RUN OUT OF END!

Seems pretty easy. My WP tank runs a slew of toggles, including Tough and Weave. Her endurance resources are:
Quick Recovery
Performance Shifter +END IO
33% recovery bonuses from IO's
*NO* Fitness pool
*NO* Physical Perfection

Stamina with a single IO will get you past 33% additional recovery. With that and Physical Perfection, you'll have END up the wazoo. Go for set bonuses to boost your hit points and make sure you have all the hit-point-boosting accolades. This will leverage WP's primary effect, which is regeneration.

Normally, I would suggest you use your freed up 3 power picks to get the Fighting pool. But, since your focus is on being solo, you really don't need it.

ummm you really need all those pvp IOs?

Physical perfections waaaay overslotted - infact with WP you don't even need it imo - dumping in the numina + miracle uniques + performance shifter proc into your build will cover you

Fast healing would do better with Regenerative Tissue +regen unique and Numina Heal + Heal/Rech IOs in

Strength of Will only needs 1 IO slotted - it cannot be effected by any form of recharge either just fyi

You placed Health and Stamina in the build in a way that isn't possible in the game. You have to take Swift or Hurdle before those two. If you are waiting on issue 19, don't put Health and Stamina in your build. Just put a slot in sprint and two in rest (in your Mids build, not in game) to represent health and stamina.

PvP sets are VERY expensive. The Gladiator 3% defense will cost you at least 2 billion inf alone. High Pain Tolerance needs at least two heal IOs to boost your HPs by a decent amount more.

Turn off Strength of Will when slotting your build. It isn't up all of the time and should not be considered as part of your normal play resistances. Also, it does not need all of the slots you gave it. You will still need the Steadfast Protection 3% defense, but I usually place that in a power that gives the lowest resistance bonus.

Slotting for Defense will add much more to your survivability than HPs or regeneration. If you can get 45% smashing and lethal defense, that will take care of around 90% of attacks. Getting 45% defense for the other damage types would be nice, but don't stress too much about it. Pool powers like Weave, Combat Jumping, Hover and, Maneuvers are good to take on a tanker when trying to soft cap defenses.

If you are still having endurance issues with a build like this, slot Numina's and Miracle uniques in Health. Health is your lowest source of regeneration, so not slotting it with heal is ok. A Willpower character should not have endurance issues, even without Stamina. Also, you need endurance reductions in your toggles and attacks. You can't depend on recovery alone to keep you at full endurance.

If you plan on tanking for a team, you will probably need Taunt. Willpower's taunt aura is the weakest in the game. Gauntlet definitely will not be enough to keep an enemy on you if there is a Shield scraper on your team.

Tough, Weave, Physical Perfection, Stamina, and Chain Induction could all be slotted much better. You really should look at other Willpower builds to see how others slotted, even if they aren't Electric Melee.

Agreed. In addition:

Like Physical Perfection, Stamina is very overslotted. 3 or 4 slots will be plenty unless you're aiming for a specific, highly-desirable set bonus.

HPT should primarily be slotted for Heal, and just secondarily for resistance. I'd slot 3 Heal IOs (or 4 if you're using sets) and 2-3 resistance. If you want to stick with the GA set, just the +def and the resistance IO would be fine.

Many of your powers are underslotted for defense, resistance, and in the case of toggles, end reduction. (Though that's not as much of a concern for WP.) The rule of thumb is to aim for 95% enhancement of heals and 56% for defense and resistance, plus around 40% end reduction in toggles. The slotting of Fast Healing is particularly baffling; you'll have to spend billions on those PvP IOs, why not use a level 50 Heal set in FH that will come close to fully slotting it in 3 slots?

RttC is a weak taunt aura, so in addition to end reduction, I'd add a slot for taunt duration. Getting Taunt itself would be a good idea when Fitness becomes inherent and those slots open up.

Double-slotting Resurgance with recharge seems unduly pessimistic. IMO, triple-slotting SS is also a waste.

WP does NOT need KB protection; I'd recommend dropping SoW down to one slot, the Steadfast +Def would be fine there.

You're taking attacks way too late and powers that can be delayed like the Fighting Pool and Resurgance too early. I recommend taking JL and TS pre-20 and LR as soon as it's available. (I know this is a respec but you might want to exemp some day.)

You can't take Conserve Power after Physical Perfection. PP really doesn't need more than 4 slots, but if you don't want to take it at 49, move something like Resurgance or SoW into that spot.

You may want to consider slotting for typed defense bonuses since they will signficantly increase your surviability. S/L def is always the challenge for WP, but if you could get it up to around 30% it would be a big help.

There is so much wrong here that I do not even know where to begin.

Do you have a plan/goal for this build, or are you just putting in things that are expensive?

Well, I will say you've overcome the problem of underslotting toggles, at least some of them.

Hmm, where to begin. I'm honestly a little baffled by all the six-slotted powers; most defense, resistance and heal passives and toggles don't need more than 3 or 4 slots, unless they're like HPT, which can (and should be) slotted with both Heal and Resistance. You've got several powers (RttC, Fast Healing, Quick Recovery, Mind Over Body) that are extremely overslotted and many underslotted; because of ED limitations generally slotting more than 4 in those powers is just wasting slots. Mouse over QR, for instance, and look at the red number. You're slotting QR to 143%, but because of ED, you're only getting 101%. Two or three of those slots could be used to help fully slot Tough, for instance.

Also, you seem to be aiming for defense bonuses, but this build isn't slotted for the defense type you need most, S/L defense. WP comes with a considerable amount of E/NE/F/C def, but quite a bit less S/L defense. Since S/L damage is by far the most common type, I strongly recommend that you look for sets that give you S/L defense bonuses.

You also have a lot of extremely expensive purple and PvP IOs. If you have the money and really want to spend it that way, fine, but PvP and purple IOs are not the most effective means to build a good WP tank.

Since it would take too long to go through power by power, I'm going to do something I rarely do, and that's post a build of my own. This is for a WP/DB tank, but it should give you a better idea of how to slot powers and what sets to look for. I used Gift of the Ancients for the defense powers, but Luck of the Gambler would be a good choice if you have the influence to spend on +Recharge IOs. Also note that I didn't get Physical Perfection; it isn't really necessary if you have both Stamina and Quick Recovery.

Here you go.

It is softcapped to E/N, since Energy is the third most common damage type after smashing and lethal, and you barely resist it at all, getting some defense to it is important.

S/L defense is around 38%, which should be fine since you resist close to 70% of it.

It has decent regeneration, and HP is at 3,210.

Best of all, it's fairly cheap, and shouldn't run out of endurance at any time other than being nailed by a couple sappers at once.

All right here is my current version. But I'm wondering if It would be better to swap out the 2 Scirocco's Dervish - Chance of Damage(Lethal) in Jacobs Ladder and Thunder Strike along with the Pounding Slugfest - Disorient Bonus in Charged Brawl to slot 3 resistance IOs in High Pain Tolerance which only gives me about a 4% increase in defense.

And or swapping conserve power for Laser Beam Eyes sloted with

  • Apocalypse - Damage
  • Apocalypse - Damage/Recharge
  • Apocalypse - Accuracy/Damage/Recharge
  • Apocalypse - Damage/Endurance
  • Analyze Weakness - Defense Debuff
  • Analyze Weakness - Accuracy/Defense Debuff
even though I would have to remove one slot from Maneuvers and 2 from Physical perfection.
