Fire/Kin I did something wrong.
So very terribly wrong. I think.
I've reviewed all the builds on here, and yes, I am aiming for a farmer simply because I want to be in the IN crowd. I'm cool like that. Let me start by stating, I am the world's WORST with mids. I have tried and tried and simply cannot put it together like some of you and I am in tremendous awe of any of you who do so. Having said that, it looks like all the S/L capping is coming from a combination of Tough, Weave, Stone Armor. In most of those cases they are built with the same IOs. Red Fortune and Reactive Armor. Having followed those guides and thinking "Ah hah, I am cool now!" I have gotten my face literally melted. So I opened up Combat Attributes in game, and I find it says I have 25%... This struck me as odd because I was under the impression that these would net me around 35-45%. I have to get my son up, so I haven't got the time to set it up in Mids for you, but I'd be happy to later if needed. But I have 5 slots in each using those two IO sets. What did I miss? Can anyone tell me? Is it just the way it displays in game? *Edit - correction it is listing as 10%. |
So if you've a power which grants 20% defense and you slot it with 3 Defense SOs you'll be at around 32%, not 40% like you might be expecting, they grant 20% of the defense figure per SO rather than 33%.
So it's not listing my actual "total" in the Combat Attributes window, just by the factor it is affected? What I mean to say is, if it's showing 10% that just means that a power that gives you 30% base is now affected 10% more?
In combat attributes it is your "actual total".
I think where you are missing something is to softcap you will need s/l def bonuses in more powers than the three you mentioned.

Okay, possibly stupid questions.
Are you actually RUNNING your defensive toggles? Like, Weave, Stone Armor, Maneuvers, Combat Jumping, etc.?
Are you looking under the right part of the combat attributes window? Between Weave, Maneuvers, and Combat Jumping, I believe that would net you around 10% to everything else, but your S/L defense should be a lot higher, since that is all Stone Armor grants.
Do you have a Steadfast Protection +3% defense in Tough? If not, you should get one.
Other possible things you can slot to improve S/L defense further: Enfeebled Operation x4 in an immobilize power (Ring of Fire would probably be a better choice than Fire Cages, since you want some damage slotted in Fire Cages). Kinetic Combat in something like Boxing or Seismic Smash, or both. (I actually recommend picking up Seismic Smash anyway, how could you NOT want an extreme damage melee hold? It hits for about 600 damage when Fulcrum Shifted and Containment is active)
I'll see what I can do with a build when I get home (provided I have time). I'm not the best with Controllers, but I know the various IO sets pretty well.

Holy cow, I just realized something. When I was checking those numbers it was when I first logged in. There's a distinct possibility I never kicked on my toggles. *facepalm* Still trying to figure out why I get mopped up so easily.
It's not every time mind you, just occasionally they just manage to get me just right and plow over me. I'll do some testing later when I get a change and update you guys so you know just how idiotic even experienced players can be. I suspect I am indeed that idiot today. ;-)
Okay my son is watching Elmo until I get his bath ready, so I jumped in real quick. Don't judge me...
Indeed, I did not have them toggled, I just had a moment apparently. I am showing 39.5%
And now that I've embarrassed myself completely I will sulk away and find a Steadfast 3% at lunch. Thanks for the heads up guys!

Elmo say . . . "Toggles Good!"
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)
