Synaptic Overload - confused enemies attack me? I'm confused
Should confused enemies be attacking me?
Ive got an Electric Control Dom and enemies that Ive confused with [Electric Control.Synaptic Overload] attack me. I picked a mob of 2 and fired off the Synaptic Overload, waited a moment until both had the purple confusion bubbles over them, then attacked. They both turned and attacked me and did damage till I defeated them. Is this some sort of bug, or does Synaptic Overload work differently than other Confusion powers? |

It depends on the enemy.
It seems the power has been coded to provide the graphical effect of confusion (the purple cloud) even if the Magnititude of confuse protection has not been overcome.
So a low level dom may experience this against a few different lieutenant class critters in Praetoria, and a few in CoX content too, as well as Bosses/EBs/AVs Theres every appearance that the enemy is confused, and its annoying, it seems to le tyou know which was the anchor of your confuse. It got me killed alot in early use before I figured out what was happening.
However the enemies affected by the arc should only ever get the purple cloud if they have been sufficiently magged with confuse for it to take effect.
So... I can explain why the anchor attacked you, but not the other dude, unless you took his alpha just before the confuse kicked in.
the synaptic overload puts a confuse symbol on everything it hits because its still applying the -recov and -end portions of the power as well
its only a mag 3 confuse so it wont affect higher than a boss unless domination is up and its the first target in the chain, but it will still show the confuse symbols because of the -recov/end portions of the power

The plastic tips at the end of shoelaces are called aglets. Their true purpose is sinister.

I've noticed this as well on my Elec/Rad. All the more annoying because I'm in melee. They LOOK confused so I rush in and WAP! I get stunned. Retoggling Conductive Aura and Choking Cloud and reapplying RI and EF gets annoying after a while. Otherwise Elec/Rad rocks!
Edit: I just noticed I'm in the Dom boards. I was talking about my troller.

Both Resistance and Ghoul bosses also employ powers which can effect the protection and resistance to confuse effects of their allies and outside of Praetoria there are similarl foes as well (Longbow Officers, a Cimeroran with Shout of Command, etc.)
Combine that with the purple dots showing on any foes effected by a non-confuse portion of Synaptic Overload might help explain the seemingly 'wrong' reactions at times though I've no idea if this had anything to do specifically with the OP's issue.

Easy way to check if they're really confused. Did they attack each other? If not, they're not confused enough, and you're going to take an alpha to the face if you charge in. Basically, if you're trying to use confuses as a primary form of control, don't swing until they do.

This is good advice though. I just need to exhibit more self control. HA! Right...
I play fast and furious so I typically rush in a split second after Static Field and/or Synaptic Overload depending on the need.

It's funny seeing blasters and scrappers detach from the current fight because they see the next group fighting amongst themselves. It seems they panic quickly at the impending 'loss of xp'

Asha'man, I know we don't team with our EC users, but if you notice on my dominator when I am playing, I will throw a synaptic overload into the next spawn even before the current spawn is much passed half-down. That way, the next group is nice and softened up when we get around to it.
