I bought Star Trek Online to play with friends, and I had to update my drivers. It did change the layout of my screen. Now I try to log in COH and I get a wide screen, I can get in. But don't see a cursor. So i switch screens which usually helps getting the cursor. Everything is off, I cannot play properly the screen freezes and I have to get out because the cursor disappears constantly, if I try the switching screens trick it messes op COH and I have to get out with Ctrl-alt delete. What can I do so I can play BOTH games properly?

hmm your bottom link sends me to a free download, but if i run it (which it does for free) and press the optimise button i have to pay for something I am supposedly get for free????

Still don't know what to do I got a Geforce 8800 i believe. (it is not something I have to check every day)

the problem is that the cursor disappears and the movement is extremely shaky, I tried to put things back but to no avail. Everyting else works fine, it's just CoH which isn't functioning properly. Is there no easy fix?

If you could post your computer stats with CoHelper (from the first link), it would help us get you an answer better. For instance, which video card do you have? What version of windows? Which service pack for that version of windows? Did you download the latest RELEASE drivers or BETA drivers? The more we know, the more we can help!

So far, no one's reported any issues with the latest drivers, so there might be something unique to your system causing the trouble. And unless you're prepared to give us a directx and system readout from the top of your head, we won't know what the trouble is.

Otherwise, have you tried running CoH in safemode? IIRC there should be a safemode shortcut in your start menu. If not, do a forum search on how to do this with your normal shortcut. This will run the game at lowest settings. Start from there, slowly tweak your settings up and try to isolate where the problem lies.

Ok, I was, switching constantly between screens, able to match the resolution between CoX and my computer. I had hoped against all hope that this would solve the problem. CoX looks great now. But it isn't playable. Yes by contantly switching screen I can see a cursor, then I have to switch two times (or more) and click it , the cursor seems to be invisible. When the cursor is invisible i can see some items "light up" in the login in screen , character selection screens and the game windows. So with considerable difficulty I am able to log in get a character and get into a zone I can also with some difficulty log out. Remember I am constantly switching screens.

Now everything else in my computer (other games etc) work perferctly, the only problem I have is COH and its invisible cursor problem.

Run CoHHelper and Hijackthis. Both should be free.

In the meantime add -compatiblecursors to the end of your desktop shortcut

So if it looks like this "C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\cohupdater.exe"

Change it to this "C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\cohupdater.exe" -compatiblecursors

Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!

Ok, let's start again. I case you're wondering: I'm Dutch, english is not my native language although I do understand basic day to day English. I don't consider myself a complete idiot, but I am just a simple user of a computer. I am no expert in dealing with overly technical issues. When I run City of Heroes helper I get the above information. It really doesn't tell ME much anyway. Rest to say I do still get a fail message when I run City of Heroes helper. SO bear with me.

This is what i know and think I can understand. This monday I updated my drivers, not realising that it would change anything in my games. Everyhting works perfectly, except COX. I can log into CoX, but my cursor is invisible. SInce that has always been the case nothing new. However, on monday morning, before i updated my drivers, I could see the cursor after switching screens only once.

The new situation is as follows I can still log in into CoX, my cursor is still invisible. by switching the screen I can see the cursor, BUT not use it. By switching screens again I can use it, but it is invisible. I can get into the chararcter selection screen, the problem persists, once again my cursor is invisible. If I run my invisible cursor over the names the names do light up i can click on it then. Again if I enter a zone, my cursor is still invisible. Switching screen will show me the posotion of the cursor, but i cannot use it until i switch screens and the cursor is once invisible.

Since this started happening after i updated my drivers, so it seems a logical conclusion that the updating is to blame. I do not personally understand WHY it happens. It does make no sense to me at all why a cursor should behave so strangely in ONE game (for the rest my computer is running very well and has no problems at all with a cursor). which leaves me with following conclusion (maybe it's an assumption) something is wrong with CoX. The one thing I did manage to do was changing CoX to the same resolution as the rest of my computer (and boy it does look much better now).

So far you've been pushing me to use a few programs which i downloaded and it doesn't tell me anything and I really don't know how to use. Or what it is supposed to do. I am grateful you're helping me so far I still have the same problem.

By the way putting -compatiblecursor behind anything hasn't solved anything yet either.

So far i just get i little frustated I cannot play a game properly I have paid for.

So in simple terms for this dutch idiot what d I do, what's wrong where do I look?

problem solved, and how did i do this? I went (with difficulty into Cox, went to options and changed to windowed in my resolution options. So for anyone who has this prblem in the future change your resolution setting to windowed.

And then maximize the window once you get into the game. Some people forget they can do that.
