PERC Presents: Mr. and Ms. Paragon Universe 2010 - Champion
Wow.
I didn't realize costume contests were so serious, all conspiracy theory and stuff.
First off: Host your own Costume Contest if you do not like how things are run.
Second: Having five billion trillion temp powers is not showing off "Power-Customization" that you originally took with your build. More of a hey lookie here, let's see all of the content that I went through/or not. Third: A few of us do not spend hours upon hours getting every single badge on our toon, I personally save that for a 50, also provided that some people these days accumulate their accounts in different means. So being a badge-floozy should be out of the question. Enjoy. |

Whenever PERC judge a female CC the winner is the person who looks like a clone of Miss Liberty. I wish I had the screenshots on me to prove it but seriously the past 4-5 CCs I have been to the female winner has been a blonde woman with fat hips wearing a red and blue spandex/miniskirt costume. I still feel dirty from winning the Party Pack competition by creating a blonde "Miss Liberty goes partying" costume, lol.
Meh, Champ will never win the overall prize so long as we send clones to the finals, especially clones who only have 57 badges total and 3 exploration badges, no accolades at all and no set bonuses whose name is a jokey pun and whose global was something like "pimpstress". At least you didn't choose Santa this time (I'm just bummed since I burned something like 42 temp powers during the arena demonstration round, including an HVAS and nukes but also the original limited blackwand, clockwork connection and the old rikti rifle ). More seriously, with no "villain" categories, it will be rare for an evil-looking character to win and represent their server. It's quite an "all-or-nothing" situation for a judge to choose a villain over a well-made but stereotypical heroic costume. |
Oh and champs did win last year so I wont put us out of the race to fast.

This was a costume contest and not a player contest, right?
Okay, just checkin'.

Third off: You should just be happy you were not DQ'd when you dropped the pets as you had no way to control them and they started to attack the judges and hosts. |
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
Overall... the CONCEPT contest went well. The judges chose and decided. Like I said before, the 16 semi-finalists were great representations of who we are as a server. It is a bummer that we can't all get trophies (sorry this isn't junior league soccer folks) but I think we had a great show and we have two excellent candidates for finals! There will always be gripes or grapes, but I will say there is definitely no argument when you have won in the past. Keep your dignity and sportsmanship in tact and praise everyone for doing a splendid job. There's always next time. We already know and acknowledge your awesomeness, so every now and then it is ok for somebody else to win (*there's never been a rule, but it was one reason some past winners didn't compete again). You all did amazing and we should stride to ignore ignorance and promote Marevlousnessitude (Trademarked by Ashcraft). So cheers to all and Stay Marvelous!

They said the powers bit was about creativity. I thought spamming a million zillion temp powers was pretty creative
I didn't expect to win. I should have been DQed when I used the Bio Nuke, since it caused a 5 minute effect on everyone nearby which messed with their costumes (I forgot it ddid that, oops).
I did like Mercede's bio, which was cute. It was the Mis Libery-esque trend that stuck out for me. Also, I thought this contest was about more than just the character's look. I guess I'm still stuck with the old concept where you had to apply in advance, submit survey answers and produce a player pic. Where the chosen server winners were supposed to "represent" their server like mascots

Of interesting note... I do think we need to continue to focus on the "representing" part. How do we best find the two most optimal people to serve as Mr & Ms Champion? Ideas?
PS: I liked the names of Mercedes' pets! LOL!

Rather, the better way to do it is to get as many people out as we can from the server, choose those you honestly think are the better characters, and try to make sure everybody has a fun time in the process. I know I attended a few of these on some servers just to see what others came up with, (and root for player friends) and participated here because it's my 'home' server, and I have to say I was glad to see that Dazz and Cherry tried to keep things light and fun. I didn't agree with all the choices, but that's the nature of any judged contest: it favors the personal tastes of those deciding. The judges do their best, there won't be anything but good intent involved.
Win or lose, you're not 'bad' because you aren't chosen, you're not the best if you are. The aforementioned human selection will skew to personal taste. Your character was made for you and your tastes...some others may appreciate it, some won't. Whether others like your stuff or not, just have a good time and move on. Oh, and if you see somebody else who created something you think is well done, make sure you let them know you like their style and you think it's cool.
To me, that's about as serious a costume contest should get.
My personal take? Don't go anywhere near the 'representative of the server' or server 'mascot'...it'll just lead you into trouble. Let's face it, there are a ton of different people on a server, and no one character or player can reflect well that diversity.

Yes, I did appreciate that you were there to help coordinate and entertain. I just snuck into the judging for the first round, so I didn't get to be there for while the others in D were kept occupied,so it slipped my mind.
Side note: the arena observer drones do a grade 'A' job making me feel pervy and dirty. Nothing like sneaking around as a giant zoom camera lens with wings that nobody can see to make you seem like a really gross paparazzi/peeping tom.

For the Finals tonight, test is being a little wonky.
If your test is updated -- you can get in by making a shortcut to the cityofheroes.exe (not the updater, but the file) and after the " of the target add -project cohtest and yes there needs to be a space between the " and -
This will allow you to get on to the test server.
Contestants who are absolutely unable to get onto test, please contact me in game @Madame Pistacio and we will work something else out. Hopefully everyone should be able to use this fix and get on.

Mr. and Ms. Paragon Universe went through many changes this year. We included bios, power customization, costumes, and asked each player about their characters. We wanted to thank the community for making this a memorable event as you all do every year. This event is always hard to judge and this was no exception. All of the finalists had amazing concepts and put on a great show for us. Tonight was a special event and we want to thank everyone that participated. We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding through technical difficulties. We are proud to say that every single server finalist was present and judged tonight!
The Overall Winners
Mr. Paragon Universe, From the Liberty Server
Vilhjalmur
Ms. Paragon Universe, from the Virtue Server
Desert Owl
Both characters not only had great costumes, but awesome concepts. They put on a phenomenal performance. Congratulations to you both and thank you to everyone that participated!
