Recommended IO slotting for L50 Claw/Regen that mostly solos on Heroic?
Since /Regen has fallen out of favor in recent years, the sticked guides thread doesn't even have a recommended Claw/Regen guide anymore, let alone one that is current with IO buildouts.
My wife has an L50 Claw/Regen that she loves to solo with, on Heroic. It's her only main. Right now she's kitted out only with SOs (I know, I know... we've been away for a long time). Just wondering if anyone has a decent L50 cookie-cutter build with IO slotting that suitable for casual soloing on Heroic (or maybe Tenacious), just following standard contacts/paper/radio/tip/morality missions. She doesn't do task forces or anything advanced. She has about 12 million INF to burn right now on IO or recipes and comps as needed. Not sure whether that's considered a "low budget" for L50 IOs or plenty of scratch to build out anything from Auction House purchases. So that amount of INF is one constraint, and the other is we don't want to deal with PvP to find PvP-specific IOs. Any recommendations? The IO system is way too much to wade through and figure out, honestly. I'm just not up to the task these days. We just want to play and have fun for i18 and i19. Thanks in advance to anyone kind enough to help out! |
I actually recommend running at least the signature task forces, for the accolade it grants if nothing else. That would be Positron, Synapse, Sister Psyche, Citadel, Manticore, and Numina. It's not necessarily mandatory, but it helps.
Any story arcs you complete will grant reward merits (you can tell you're on a story arc wen you see an open book in the contact's window). And there are some fun ones that can be done through Ouroboros. (If you don't have access to Ouroboros, run Holsten Armitage's arc, he's the level 30-35 Science origin store, his mission grants the Ouro portal, you can find him in the bottom right corner of Brickstown)
Also, doing morality missions will get you Hero merits, that can also be spent to get some of the rarer/more expensive IOs. If you get a purple drop, take it to the auction house and sell it, and chances are that will get you enough cash for your entire build.
It's really not as complicated as it sounds, and you can do all of it just playing the game, without going too far out of your normal playstyle.
If no one else responds with a build, I'll post one when I get home from work. My main is a Claws/Regen, so I know a thing or two about building them. I can promise that 12 million won't be enough to finish the build I give you, but it's not going to be OMG expensive either. If the character is already level 50, she can put the build together as she goes.

Here is a 100-500 million inf build. Farm morality missions for hero/villain merits. You can then sell certain recipes for 80+ million inf for 1-2 merits. I'll let you search the auction house to figure out which ones are best to sell.
The build has some defense, but nothing amazing. The most expensive part of the build will be the Kinetic Combat sets.

My claws/regen scrapper is at 45 and is working on slotting out his build. The Numina's, Miracles, and the LotGs are expensive, but those I am picking up with merits. The ones I do have were from good random rolls with hero merits. Inf is not difficult to make with just a little bit of effort, but the best thing I can tell you is avoid the 'get it nao' mentality and be patient putting your sets together. I'm in the middle of reworking my build and this is the first quick attempt at it using mostly sets he already has slotted.

Honestly, for that level of play, switching even just to regular, non-set IOs will help her build alot. By using the higher values of the IOs, you'll save slots and be able to better enhance other powers.
Can you show us the current slotting?
Also, are there any powers that she loves to use and has a lot of fun with? We wouldn't want to advise you to remove something she loves.
Level 50 is a journey, not a destination.

Re the quoted reply above, I'd have to wait to get home to create a Mid's layout of her current powers/slotting, but as I recall it's a fairly standard Claw/Regen from what/ the i6 timeframe, right after enhancement diversity was foisted upon us.
I'd thought the easy way to give her a moderate bump would be to just replace all her current SOs with level 50 common IOS to go from 33% to 42% on each, although if she's already collected enough to be +3 on her SOs it's not nearly as large a gain since she'll already be at 38% on those.

- Slash hasn't had the "baseball pitch" animation for a long time now, it is now a 1-2 punch animation that is shared by Barrage and Frozen Fists. And Swipe is no longer the "AAAAAHHHHH I'm going to flail my arms wildly and hope I hit you!" animation.
- Moment of Glory is an awesome power now, and one that no /Regen of any kind should be without.
- They removed the annoying as hell pause after using Follow Up, it's a lot smoother and isn't so disruptive of your attack chain.
ED was actually a good thing. Because of it, we got the invention system, and most characters that take advantage of it are much better than their pre-ED counterparts. But I wasn't here back then, so I can only speak from hearsay.
Here's what I came up with:

The pricey stuff in it will be: Performance Shifter +End, the Luck of the Gambler pieces, the Numina's Convalescence, the Steadfast Protection Resistance/Defense, the Kismet +6% Accuracy (which you can leave out and be fine) and the Achille's Heel Chance for -Res. I suggest using merits or Hero merits to acquire those. The rest of the stuff I used runs from dirt freakin cheap to moderately expensive, but nothing too crazy (I don't think anything I used in the build goes for more than 20-25 million at most)
Always buy it as a recipe and craft it yourself, it will be MUCH cheaper to do it that way (some of the Crushing Impacts will be 100,000 as a recipe and 2-5 million as an enhancement). Also, look at levels other than level 50 IOs, sometimes a level 47 will be less than half the price and only lose .6% effectiveness.
The downside to doing that is you will end up paying more for salvage to craft it than you paid for the recipe, tell your wife to hang on to any rare salvage she gets, and make sure she keeps her recipe inventory with enough space for recipes to drop (can't get those cash cow purple drops if your inventory is full)
Hope that helps you guys out, and have fun with it!

1) That "Frankenslotting" of cheap, low-demand IO's can get you a lot of bang for the buck. It won't be like the big bucks builds that you see posted, but it'll still be significantly better than SOs.
(Frankenslotting: The act of slotting IOs from multiple different sets into a single power, missing out on set bonuses, but still gaining the enhancement values on the power itself)
2) You can Email Influence from one character to another now. (You may already know this, but you said "We've been away...", so I thought I'd mention it.
Wow, 100-200 million for typical set IO buildouts? That's pricy

No reason to despair, though. First, such builds would make soloing on heroic nightmarishly boring. They made soloing on invincible nightmarishly boring. I used to solo Sergei (Dark/Super Reflexes) on Invincible with no toggles running to fend off boredom, back before they let us crank up the difficulty levels.
Second, you can do some VERY nice things with just some common IOs, cheapo sets and frankenslotting (mixing and matching multi-aspect set IOs for primarily the enhancement value instead of set bonuses). Figure a good cheapo build like this would run maybe 50 million?
The unfortunate part about Regeneration is that it benefits MOST from recharge, and recharge is, generally speaking, the most expensive set bonus to get. Still, even a cheapo build will give you WAY better performance than needed for mere heroic missioning.
Also, influence is VERY easy to come by these days just by playing the game and selling your drops. Alexei is mostly single-target, but he can still earn 12 million per hour at vendor rates, and significantly more at auction house prices. A good farming build can earn 30 million or more per hour at vendor rates, and again, significantly more at auction house prices. You can earn merits of various sorts, buy things with them, and sell them on the auction house. You can earn Architect Entertainment tickets, buy things, and sell them on the auction house. You can play market games. High end marketeers (and I think high end farmers) can earn over 2 billion influence per week. And that, of course, is why prices are so high - people have the influence, and they're going to spend it on shiny things for their characters.

Level 6: Spin -- M'Strk-Dmg/EndRdx/Rchg:40(A), M'Strk-Acc/Dmg/EndRdx:40(7), Oblit-Acc/Dmg/Rchg:40(7), Erad-Acc/Dmg/Rchg:25(9), C'ngBlow-Acc/Rchg:25(9), M'Strk-Dmg/EndRdx:40(11)
Level 18: Focus -- Ruin-Acc/EndRdx/Rchg:40(A), Ruin-Acc/Dmg/Rchg:40(19), Mael'Fry-Dmg/EndRdx/Rchg:35(19), Thundr-Acc/Dmg/EndRdx:40(21), Thundr-Dmg/EndRdx/Rchg:40(21), Thundr-Dmg/Rchg:40(23)
The enhancement, respectively are + 64%acc/94dmg/73endrdx/64rech and + 58acc/95dmg/75endrdx/95rech. Compare that with 50 plain IOs 42/99/42/42, and the plain IOs will cost you half-a-million apiece, maybe a little less if you're patient. The IOs are also mostly not max level (you could push some of your stats even higher), which will save your wife millions in crafting costs.
These examples are meant to be as cheap as possible, as long as you buy them in recipe form. The Multistrikes (M'Strk), Cleaving Blow (C'ngBlow), Ruins, and Maelstrom's Fury (Mael'Fry) can all be picked up for next to nothing (a few 10k each at most), while the Thunderstrikes (Thundr) will require some patience or spending about 1 million apiece (I think; I haven't bought any in a while). The Eradication and Obliteration are technically "rare" (orange-colored) IOs, but they actually drop a lot, so there should be plentiful supply.
The only expensive piece of salvage is the Soul Trapped Gem (2 million or so, I think) required for the Oblit, as long as you buy the Cleaving Blow and Eradication at level 25.
If your wife frankenslots here powers, she will probably decide to dispense with soloing 'heroic'...
Thanks all for the replies so far. Wow, 100-200 million for typical set IO buildouts? That's pricy, don't think either of us have ever had more than 20-30 mill on us at any one time. Of course, that was pre- auction house so...
If you don't have Going Rogue yet, do some Architect Entertainment missions (or make your own) and read the forums for tips on turning tickets into Inf.
Or you may get a purple (ultra-rare) recipe drop. I got one today. It sold for half a billion crafted. So one good drop is all it takes to fund a really nice IO build.

There's billions to make on the market with a little effort; for example there's recipes that sell in the 100k range that with about 700k in salvage and crafting fees can be turned into a crafted IO that sells for 10 million. I recently had a Ragnarok purple recipe drop on me, that recipe was selling for 250-300 million and crafted it was selling for 350-400 million. It used roughly 5 million worth of salvage and crafting fees so I crafted it and put it up for 350 million. It sold for 400 million so I pocketed about an 80 million profit (after market fees) by selling it crafted instead of as a recipe.
There's also easy money to be made by buying level 50 junk rare recipes for 100 - 500 inf and selling them to the vendor for 10,000. It's a bit labor intensive, but it's a very reliable method to build up a bit of operating capitol.

Instead of us making guesses about what she might like, is there something about the character the she feels is inadequate? Running out of End, not able to do enough damage, long recharge times, getting too beat up by a few minions?
If she's not really having any trouble with the current build and has fun with it as is, there may not be any reason to change anything.
On the other hand, you can really pep up an SO-based character by adding a few sets of Crushing Impact to your attacks. These can be relatively cheap if you just put in lowball bids and wait. Each power that has five Crushing Impact IOs slotted will give a global 5% recharge bonus. The CI sets themselves will provide 2 SOs worth of Accuracy, 3 SOs worth of damage, slightly more than one SO worth of recharge and 1+ SO of endurance reduction. The last two things are the best deal with IOs -- and that's one reason why ED with inventions isn't all bad. It's actually rather nice to get faster attacks and lower end usage with five slots.
You might also want to five or six-slot Instant Healing with Doctored Wounds to maximize recharge and healing and get a 5% global recharge bonus. However, be aware that only the first 5 of a particular numerical bonus will be effective. That is, if you slot four sets of five Crushing Impacts and two of Doctored Wounds, you'll only get a global 25% recharge bonus, not 30%.
If you don't care about the global bonuses you can just get whatever recipes are available cheaply to maximize the bonuses you want on the power (the so-called "Frankenslotting").
It's all the rage these days to give your character lots of defense bonuses by using expensive IOs such as Kinetic Combat, but if you're just running at standard difficulty (+0/x1) it's drastic overkill.
Finally, you don't have to get IO sets at level 50. Level 50s are a lot more expensive to craft. Generally, any IO between 30 and 45 is just fine for "casual" play. But it is true that there's a bigger supply of 50s because there are more characters running consistently at that level.
You guys should maybe assume that they don't have ninja run.
p.s. I broke down and finally got ninja run myself.
It doesn't have to be a purple to command huge prices either; there's a few recipes that do randomly drop from foes that go for 100 million or more; and they tend to drop more frequently than purples.

I mean I got a one of the lesser purple set IOs yesterday. The IO recipe sold for 80 million with a 4 million fee so 76 million profit. With your math I should have gotten 4 million with 76 million in fees
How is it that your profit was only 80 million after posting a IO for 400 million? Are the fees to post it that high? Cause that's over 2/3s of the money lost in market fees. That assumes 320 million in market and crafting fees for 80 million profit on a drop you got for free.

I think he was referring to an additional 80 million in profit for crafting the recipe into an enhancement. Actually, by his math you might have been able to increase your profit if you had crafted it

That's giving me a very rough, back of the envelope cost of 15 million to sell the crafted IO instead of the recipe for 100 million more than the recipe sells for. That means that I made something around 85 million by crafting instead of selling the recipe.
I'll admit I didn't calculate all the exact costs for that post, I just went with an approximate. I may well be off by a few million one way or another but the point still stands that I made a sizeable chunk of additional inf by crafting and selling over simply listing the recipe.

Any recommendations? The IO system is way too much to wade through and figure out, honestly. I'm just not up to the task these days. We just want to play and have fun for i18 and i19.
Thanks in advance to anyone kind enough to help out!
