Mac Crashes

I used to be able to play the game fine (with little lag) on high quality on my macbook, but today it has started freezing everywhere, at first I thought it was because of high amounts of players but even that does not explain it, I was playing a mission with a team and crashed and never happened before

I guess its the whole computer because the screen freezes and no matter how long I wait nothing happens, I end up restarting the computer

If it does that again:

1. Open Console (Applications > Utilities) and click the Show Log List icon at the top. Look in the Files > /Library/Logs > PanicReporter section. If there's a .panic log there with a recent date as its name, post it here.

2. If there's no .panic log, select system.log at the top of the Files list and post the last few lines here.

Have either of you run a Verify Disk in Disk Utility recently? Do you have any 3rd party RAM installed or just Apple branded? Did you check Software Update to make sure you're all up to date?

And so I can see if there's a pattern, both of you please post your Mac model and year, RAM, and video processor type (ATI, Intel, or nVidia and model).

Also send Support requests via help.ncsoft.com. Their reply might not be very helpful right away, but it starts a tracking process that will get the devs' attention.

MacBook Pro Core i7 (2010)
4 GB DDR2 SDRAM
Nvidia 300M 256

And I run Verify and Diskwarrior all the time. I'd buy 8GB of RAM but I can't crack this unibody open. A lot of my crashes result in thousands (sometimes hundreds of thousands) of pageouts on my RAM.

The next step has two methods.

If you know pretty well how to check if you have anything loading at Mac startup, or if you have any 3rd-party extensions installed, list them here. It'll save me some time that way.

Or if you don't know how to do that, open System Profiler (Applications > Utilities) and use the Save As option to save a file as RTF. Open the document in Textedit and remove the Serial Number and UUID - I don't need them and they shouldn't be public. Then share the document somewhere (sorry, I don't actually know where a text document can be shared) and send me a PM with its location - don't post the location here.

As a bonus, if I find there's an Apple related bug I can use the same file to submit to their bug tracker as well.

Things have gotten infinitely worse. I can't sift out any crap-ups in Console from any log anywhere. I've done everything in your guide. Hell, I even reformatted and installed everything new (including CoH). I'm crashing after 10 minutes of play, give or take 3 minutes, every time I start the game. I'm at wit's end. If I Boot Camp, I no longer have right click on my trackpad. Windows will let me do it, but CoH doesn't recognize it. I can play without right click or buy a new external mouse, or I can crash every 10 minutes.

I got 3 levels in 8 hours. On a level 4. This is getting to be unacceptable. Normally I'm not the guy to ever act like this, or say what I'm about to say, but...

Whoever is in charge of the mac client seriously needs to get this BS fixed. This whole issue isn't old; in fact it's been around since the mac client launched. We play the game too. We don't like to pay money for a game that crashes more often than it works. Someone needs to fix it.

If I see "Assertion Failure" one more time I'm going to set my laptop on fire.

Starting to notice my brand new mac is crashing as well. I do get the panic log. I took a look to see if anything stood out. I will post the crash report when I get home. For me it just freezes and crashes to desktop. At least it's a clean crash. Oddly my PC is was much older and had no crashes.

No, actually. Would that be it? If it is I'm going to frown so hard R. Lee Ermey will feel it.

Edit: I wrote in a string to my boot.plist to get me booting in 64-bit from now on. Man, I feel silly. Now I'm using 64-bit.

Make sure to reboot first so the 64-bit activates. I used this utility to set it for 64-bit:

http://seiryu.home.comcast.net/~seir...rswitcher.html

I'm *really* interested about whether this stops the crashes. The Mac client should not be requiring 64-bit, so if it does this is hopefully enough to get a quick fix from Transgaming.

I did. I'm a mac-head myself; my father's worked for Apple for 20+ years and I worked for them for about a year before college ate me. I'm probably one of the few people who didn't need to google how to boot 64-bit.

Anywho, I'm running in 64-bit mode and I haven't crashed yet.

I should clarify in case someone else is testing along with us: I'm referring to Mac client game crashes, not kernel panic/system crashes.

If the game is still ill-behaved in 64-bit mode, then we have to get into finding out what you're loading at startup that I'm not or vice versa.

Trust me, should it crap out on me again I'll be back here in a flash with my list of startup items and whatever you want out of my system.log file.

You listed your Macbook Pro as a Core i7 with nVidia 300M and 256 mb of VRAM - is that correct? The Core i7 model has 512 mb of VRAM according to the Apple Store (that's what I have). I'm checking to see of maybe the amount of VRAM has to do with the crashes.

I see two errors in the log.

The first I'm familiar with - Error 12 means not enough memory handles available, pretty much the cause of every CoH Mac crash. For some reason Cider (since forever) hasn't been releasing video memory properly, which is why /reloadgfx works (it forces a release of all of it) and why it causes a crash eventually. The increased frequency of the crashes is a mystery so far.

And the 2nd error seems to be because Transgaming left some debugging code in there and it's broken, which explains the Assertion Failure.

Even so, if we're using the same Mac and the same OS version (you did run Software Update didn't you?) and the same client build (4462?) it should behave the same unless you have something drastically different from me, or our game Preferences are different somehow.
