Hey guys,

Pretty new to the cov powers, but with GR aired I would love to give it a try.

I would like to make a Brute. Allready got a primary in mind, Em. But what I'm looking for is a brute with good AoE damage as a primary. But what would be the best secondary powers for it? I know SA is really tough, but think it's a bit to slow. What's as tough as SA though?

Not sure what i'm looking for, so pretty much open to everything.

Thank you guys

For a secondary i recomend you get Willpower, specially if this is your 1st brute. I'ts really great for lvling up and rather epic right out of the box.

EM typically means Energy Melee, that's not really a great AoE set. Now if you meant Electric Melee? Different story. best for offense are Shield and Fire. the recommended Willpower is an excellent first brute becasue you can't ever go wrong with willpower. Invulnerability is also easy and tough, just watch out for psychic enemies and you're good.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

That's what I meant yeah. So Electric Melee is pretty much the best AoE?

Allready got two lvl 50 scrappers, a katana/wp and a fm/shield toon. So maybe I will go with Inv for my Brute, or is wp stronger in every way? If not, are there any things exept for psychic enemies I def need to know?

Thnx for the reply's guys.

electric Melee is NOT the best AoE under all circumstances, it depends on what you plan to fight. It sucks dog #$$ against the Rikti and Paragon PD for instance because they have ginormous energy resist. It is extraordinary against the banished pantheon because they take a bonus 10% damage from it. Trying to kill rikti bosses, especially those psychic jerks, is very frustrating. I can drop a Banished Pantheon Totem boss in less than time it takes to put down a single Rikti Heavy Gunner lieutenant with only electric attacks.

It has, overall, the best AoE potential with a massive weakness in single target. Nearly as good, and vastly superior single-target is fire melee. Claws is also a complete beast and right up there against many types of enemies (you will learn to loathe robots).

WP is not stronger in every way. It has its advantages and disadvantages. Last I heard, the record for most simultaneous solo'd AVs with to inspirations and no temp powers is 9 by a dark melee/invulnerable scrapper. Will Power cannot pull that off (or at least no one has yet to my knowledge). On the other hand, WP is able to do mind blowing things, comes with no holes in your protection at all, means you can ignore stamina if you choose to, and is almost completely passive so you can just focus on killing things.

In the end, the difference between them really comes down to this:
Does the weakness to psionics bother you a whole lot? If yes play Will Power
Does having to blow three low-level slots on sprint/hurdle and health before you get stamina bother you? If yes, play Will Power
if not at least try invulnerability it is a great set with huge potential.

If you are looking for the ultimate AoE damage brute, it's pretty much Super Strength/Fire.

That's hard to argue with, although a fire/sd/mu build would be a contender too.

Neither build is for starting out, though.

For a first brute, you'd be hard-pressed to do better than a ss/wp. If you want some AOE earlier, try a claw/inv. The second will be a considerably tougher leveling experience, so be ready.

SS is weak for AOE for a long time and only ever gets one PBAOE damage attack at 32nd level. Footstomp is crazy good, but it's one power, you wait forever to get it, and you have to be on the ground to use it (in case anyone was looking at flight). It's great for single-target damage, though. If you're going to dump a ton of inf into the build, you can get Footstomp recharging pretty regularly.

IMO, Elec/* and Claws/* are probably the best Brute primaries for AOEs. DB/* can be good for AOE if you avoid clicky secondaries to keep your combos flowing.

Rage is what makes SS the best for farming, as well as Footstomp's radius. Rage+Burn+Blazing Aura+Patron AoE=Lolwut

That said, I really like Claws. It starts off great, it's easy to level, it gets it's main AoE early, and it looks sexy. Not a huge fan of Electric. It sacrifices to much single target damage for it's AoE, and the AoE is not enough to justify it.
