I am NOT a build maker so if you could please critique my "defense oriented" build without too much sarcasm if it is bad that would be much appreciated. I am also wondering what you think of the power choices/enhancements order for the purposes of leveling.

This is for PVE.

Thanks folks!!!!!!!!!!!

I will say this:

I love caltrops so much it is hard to put into words. The power description omits the KEY detail of the power: MAGNITUDE 50 FEAR. What this means is that mobs which were following you will turn around and RUN AWAY if you put caltrops in a doorway or at a corner. If you aren't hitting them, they will often just run around -- in slow motion -- trying to escape their ouchy feet.

This power is WAY too awesome. I would not skip it.

I don't know if you need Hasten or Stealth for this build. I personally do not like Focused Burst either, but some people like it. meh.

Not sure about Caltrops, I've got to look into the fear, never heard that before. But Smoke Flash? Skipping your AoE placate? Skipping the power that lets you pull off four AS in the first half a minute of a fight? That I have to really question.

Anyways, Those are my thoughts.

if this is pve only, drop stealth it is of no use, if this is the slotting you are going to have i would suggest dropping the fighting line and just picking up combat jumping as that would allow you to soft cap as is, this would also allow you to get super jump, super speed and either caltrops or smoke flash depending on your preference without affecting your slotting

Caltrops is amazing. Don't skip it.

Hey guys, thanks for the input. I will remove stealth and put in combat jumping. I will consider the caltrops/smoke flash options as well but just a point of discussion: in some other (albeit older) threads there was debate on those two powers. The debate being caltrops was meh and smokeflash was not as good in practice as in theory.
Maybe that was PVP I cannot remember.
Also, what about my set choices? Are they not bad then?

Caltrops would be pretty lame in PvP. In the rest of the game, it is unbelievable how good it is. At level 9, I was struggling to survive groups of three minions. At level 10, I had a chained series of 3-minion ambushes which never once got me below about 90% health. The difference? Caltrops. Caltrops around a corner is enough to let me get back into Hide while the things chasing me try to decide whether to come after me. It turns multiple pursuers into scattered and demoralized individual victims. Basically, yes, you'll find people who think it's a "meh" power. Unless they're talking about PvP, they're crazy. (This reminds me of reading a Dark Miasma guide that said Dark Servant was useless because of its recharge time. lolwut.)

Haven't gotten to Smoke Flash yet. Only level 16.

I don't know enough about IO slotting to give good advice.

It's not exactly Fear (terrorized). It's called "afraid" status and it's something that affects only NPC AIs. It's the same effect that causes mobs to try to run away from Rain of Fire, a lit Oil Slick, Burn, Ignite, etc. It's kind of like Fear in the sense that mobs will only be able to spend SOME of their time attacking you. The rest will be spent trying to get off of the trops. And because it is such a high mag, it affects almost anything short of an AV. I had two Cyclops EBs in a ITF the other day dancing around trying to get away from trops while trying to hit my Nin/Nin stalker. I only ever had one of them attacking me.

Elite... bosses. That's not bad crowd control for a level 10 power on a Stalker.

I also have a AR/Dark corr and I can tell you that caltrops will do a better job stopping an ambush in its tracks than even Tar Patch. With Tar they keep going through it, albeit slowly. With caltrops, they actually stop and turn, try to run, attack. Basically the whole thing runs into them like a train wreck and it takes them a lot longer to get around/through than even the much larger Tar Patch.

I wouldn't. Smoke Flash does cause the placate effect, in that enemies will stop attacking you, but it does NOT put you into hidden status. You won't gain a crit on your next attack unless you wait another 8 seconds (6 if you want to get that AS started early) doing absolutely nothing and hoping nobody you missed with Smoke Flash (because it CAN miss) is able to hit you during that time, spoiling the whole thing.

I mean it may be of some benefit up to the point where you have a full attack chain, but once you DO have a complete attack chain it WILL outdamage an Assassin Strike's damage averaged out over the 8 seconds necessary to regain Hide.

Smoke Flash has some limited use as an escape power, but other than that it is without a doubt the most skippable power in all of Ninjitsu.

Yeah that's what I heard about smoke too. So how we stand is, remove stealth for CJ, the fighting line is not necessary, grab caltrops, I would still like to keep hasten and ninja run is good enough for me.
I will post another build when I am home tonight but.....how's the slotting look?

Ok a small revision to the build with Caltrops. I kept stealth in to keep defense up. Any suggestions on the slotting/IO choices......or anything really? Thanks for the help so far

Well I have given it a few days. I was hoping just one teensy weensy stalker veteran would pop in and comment on my build. Let me know of any major errors I am missing.
