Hi all, not sure if this is the best place to post, but i'm taking a shot.

I'm in the market for a gaming laptop, to play games from CoX to Crysis type. Shooting for around $1700.00 US but i'm a tad flexible. Getting something from Dell is a first choice due to my location, but again flexible.

I'd appreciate any suggestions, insights, links.

Go for the MSI-GX640... is a bargain. Or get the barebones version with less warranty, no OS, but mucho cheaper... let me link

The good news is, you can have the most powerful laptop GPU currently available on the market in this price range.

That would be the RadeonHD 5870 Mobility, and Newegg has one from MSI for $1600.

Granted, that is an MSI model.

You can find an Asus model with the RadeonHD 5870 from Mwave for the $1600 pricepoint.

JR also has the Asus model for around the same pricepoint.

Dell will sell you a laptop with a RadeonHD 5870 mobility edition, but you'll be starting at $1800 for the Alienware brand name.

If it was my money on the line, I'd buy the Asus. It's got a slightly slower processor than the MSI, but it's got a larger screen, and Asus products tend to be built to last.

I recently bought an asus n71jq for $1150. If you have a costco membership, you can try it for a few months and return it if it doesn't meet your specs.
It's almost as fast as my desktop q6600 overclocked to 3.4 and runs cox in ultra mode. You may be able to find it cheaper than costco, but other places don't have costco's return policy. You can buy it from costco first, then return it if you like it and buy it cheap somewhere else.

You can easily overclock the graphics card in the lappy I linked to 5870 levels AND save $300 or more.
