Doppleganger tech in bank missions

First, standard code rant to what I'm about to suggest.

Anyway, a way that could make bank missions more interesting would be to use the doppleganger tech we have now. Except, not of your player, but someone else's. Say you're protecting a bank, the villain would be generated based on a player on the other side, complete with their costume, powers, super group (if applicable), and bio (if applicable), chosen from a level close to your own. Should make Mayhems and Safeguards quite a bit more interesting if you could run into "dopplegangers" of other players on your server. Perhaps, if the mission settings/team size is high enough, the doppleganger could be an AV instead of you fighting a signature AV.

What if there are no valid characters? Well, we already have plenty of existing bank robbers who could stand in.

If there were a way to determine exactly who actually shows up, it might be fun. It would be rather bizarre if one of my characters happened to show up though.

Maybe it could be done by checking the characters on your account. If you're playing a Hero and you have at least one villain on the server you're on, there's a chance that villain will be the one robbing the bank.

Looks like I forgot to mention it, but I was thinking the other would be chosen from players of the other faction currently logged in on your server.

I like the idea, but in practice it would be a little tiresome to run into characters like "Firekin Guy" or "TwoGunz1138" over and over. For this to truly shine there would have to be some sort of quality control process.

And what of concept characters whose concept is livened entirely by power customization? I have a science tanker who uses white (or green, depending on costume) Ice Armor to simulate "Holo Armor," but the doppelganger uses the standard ice. Dark Armor would be the worst for this, as I've seen people use it for blood, poison, sand, radiation, and even water at one point.

Like I said, I like the idea and would like to see it happen. But after the above issues are addressed. Done properly this would be fantastic, done poorly and the immersion could be wiped out.

Also, this is another application where customizable nemeses would be a great addition. What better way to increase our character customization than to be able to customize our arch enemy?

If it was one of your own characters, I guess I could see the appeal.

However, I don't really see the point in using someone else's character from the server. All you're doing is replacing a random villain with a different random villain. There's also the distaste I would have for the server puppeting my character around. I do have a number of heroes and villains that have no reason to be involved on either side of a bank heist.

I think there should be (fully optional) PvP mayhem vs safeguard missions.

To be fare, you're not replacing a random villain with a different random villain. You're replacing a pre-fab villain, and indeed one from a VERY small pool of pre-fab villains, with a truly random villain that you haven't seen before. I haven't done many Safeguards, but I'm kind of tired of facing against Holo Man when I do Mayhem missions.

Opportunity cost notwithstanding, I can't really disagree with this idea.

Same here. Sorta tired of Holo Man myself.

But, since it has been brought up about using toons from real players and some of the issues (esp. ones with interesting names), could something be done with the toons in AE custom enemies database, like ones from the dev's choice stories? They should be screened to be more playable and balanced. Also, it would be a kick to see a creation running around the city.

Looking at Paragon Wiki, I found the problem. There are 28 generic Villains available, but only 13 generic Heroes. Not sure how those numbers stack up in light of the side-switching storylines, though.

That said, they're not "pre-fab". They've always been pretty blatantly designed to mimic player-made characters. Seems like they just badly need to make more heroes, and randomize both groups better. Oh, and add in a few existing NPCs that we already have that need to be used more, like the Civic Squad.
