Re-subbed to GR:CC tonight after trying it a little with a throwaway trial account. Just as I go to create/migrate my second character (mainly to reserve the name), I get dumped. Server maintenance DT !

I forgot that we in the rest of the world don't factor in & DT is bound to fall into our prime time (SOE anyone? . My chars are on Virtue & I'd just like to create a dummy char to re-reserve the 2nd name. Lo & behold, DT is now over two & a half hours! Do I go to sleep, hoping someone won't have pinched my great hero name by the morning, or stay up at Cryptic's mercy, pretending I don't have a life & a killer Friday tomorrow...ahhh, the dilemmas we face in RL!

Great start guys. So happy to be back with the first 2.5hrs & night of my month's sub down the drain & another evening of what was supposed to be an enjoyable romp through my old favourite mmo turned into...well, you get the picture. Most important thing is, you got your 40 bucks up front from this wally. Have a good night/morning all - this was just what for doctor ordered for me after the week I've had *sigh*.

(server statuses now 'Unknown' lol - will I or won't I fall for this poison carrot...hmmm...*pop*

Wut was the question?

I just re-upped yesterday, and finding the servers down this morning wasn't favorable, but the fact is, downtime happens. Especially after any large release/expansion like Going Rogue. I didn't check yesterday to see if there was scheduled maintenance or if this morning is an emergency patch, but it's to be expected in any game the following weeks after a big release. To not expect it is unreasonable.

Actually Thursdays are now the schedule maintenance day and have been for quite some time now. Even with GR roll-out, we didn't get that many downtime. Some servers had special reboot/maintenance but that's to be expected. We didn't see anything like Aion release where the servers were simply not available half the time or a 3h queue to log in.

To the OP, welcome back to the game. Hope you enjoy GR.

Server maintenance is mentioned here. As you can see from Oct 2009, it has been changed to once a week.

To the OP... Welcome back to CoH.
As an FYI this game has had an average uptime of well over 97-98% of the time throughout its 6+ year history.
Quite remarkable actually.

Whenever someone rants about downtime here I can't help but smirk a little. Sure it's going to inconvenience somebody somewhere sooner or later, but to whine about this game's downtime openly on the forum is fairly unreasonable all things considered. *shrugs*

Well said. Perhaps the OP could petition Paragon Studios to schedule weekly maintenance around his schedule, when he chooses to subscribe, in the future. Best of luck with that!!

Every game has maintenance. There was a pretty significant expansion recently released. There will be downtime. We all have to deal with it.

1) They just rolled out major content last week. We will be seeing frequent patches over the next month.

2) Thursday is normally maintenance for a few hours in the morning, today also includes happen to include a patch to live.

3) Sadly our Oceanic counterparts do end up getting the short stick for evening play when the servers go down in our (US) morning. Cut the dude some slack for venting.

Ironically enough I can actually speak to this point. Even though I live in Florida I do a lot of international travel to places like Japan and Singapore. These areas happen to be in the same general time zones the OP claims to be from in his "location" setting. Out of several dozen trips and maybe 30-40 play sessions overseas in the last several years I think I've only been "inconvenienced" by the weekly maintenance once that I can remember. Not too bad really.

You're comparing being over there maybe twice a year for a couple of weeks to living there every day? Now that's funny, and very condescending.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

I detailed EXACTLY what my situation was - did you even read my post?

Out of maybe 30+ attempts to play this game overseas (mostly tried in the evenings and/or "prime times" as far as a person living in Melbourne, Australia would be concerned) I've only been hit by the server maintenance once that I recall. This means that my average downtime in these timezones is around 3% of the time. To me that percentage is not worth whining about.

The only thing I see as "funny" around here is -anyone- whining about downtime here. *shrugs*

Cheers guys! Downtime for me so far: 100%

Can't even enter the game on my laptop this morning, which was fine on the past week's trial account. So, pls excuse my vent - cost me $40 so far for 1 vent - is that a good ROI lol?! I recall getting a lot more posts in with SOE before they canned my forum account <BFG>.
Roll on Friday night & all that fun we so love when trying to get a game to work when it's just not been your week...

I spent two years in Taiwan, part of that time when maintenance was daily. Every single day after working from 9 to 10 I'd come home and try to log in, forgetting about the downtime. Even when it was changed to a weekly schedule it still affected my game play. It is a very frustrating scenario, and as a previous poster said, you're story comes off as quite condescending.
