What you're looking for is called a Super Group (or a Villain Group). If you're playing Going Rogue, you won't be able to join one until you leave Praetoria at about lvl 20.
However, there are also plenty of global channels like Triumph Watch 2.0. You can join these and chat about the game with or without an SG.

Obsidius nails it pretty good for what you are looking for. The first twenty levels are quick to go by so not being in a Super/Villain Group is nothing too major.
Global channels are the best way to for basic teaming. Another good one to have is Triumph LFT. Or just generic tells looking for more. I know once you move out of Praetoria there will be a lot of guild advertising happening, so no need to worries.
Also we here on the Triumph server are more than welcome you in any question, not holding you hand as you say but give good sound advice.

Triumph is a great server for teaming, and it has that feeling that everyone knows one another, you won't have have any problems finding teams. You may want to try the N P C channel, it's part of the Mentor Project, they are pretty friendly and willing to answer any questions you may have. And also the Player Questions thread is full of helpful tips and info. Finally to find a supergroup (SG) on Triumph you may want to look at the sticky Triumph Hero/Villain Groups, it may be helfpul to you in finding the right SG home.

This is a server where some people left but the great players along with tamaki stayed during all the transfers. Most of the people you do meet usually have a lot of characters to play, so if you really enjoy teaming with someone, get a "Global friend" and then you'll always been in contact no matter what toon they play.
A good channel to join is Triumph Watch 2.0, It used to be very strict on what you are looking for ( Task Forces, Giant Monsters or Raids) but nowadays if you have questions you can ask them and usually tam is the only one that will say "off-topic." Don't pay him any mind.
To join Triumph Watch:
1. Right Click on your chat window.
2. Click Join Channel
3. Put in "Triumph Watch 2.0"
4. You Joined it. You have to PM a moderator to get unsilenced thou.

I just joined up with this MMO when GR came out. I am confused as to how to join a team? I am a little confused about all the facets of this game. In other words I'm just looking for a group to play with. Not to hold by the hand or anything, but just to talk with a discuss the game. Thanks for any help.
