Good Solo Brute

New to the game, just bought the complete set. I play at night so I am looking for a good build for soloing.

So far I have tried a SS/WP brute, which holds up pretty well. And a KM/ELA Brute, I like KM attacks, but I don't care much for ELA at the moment. Granted I am low level so it might get better.

I was thinking of trying KM/WP to see if that is a better fit, but I will go SS if it is "better"

Just drop a post if you guys would explaining which builds are best for a solo brute, and a short explanation. Any powers are fine except fire.

For me, I found Stone/WP to be a beast.

You'll need to slot for endurance reduction in your attacks, and accuracy. Let fury be your damage. In the long run, you'll be a SMASH monster. Personally I enjoy the hell out of it. Plenty of damage and stuns, slow but vicious.

Well done.
I have a 50 in every AT, but Scrappers and Dominators are my favorites.

Anything/Anything

Brutes solo like champs. It's pretty hard to go wrong. Right now I am doing a Claws/Fire. I've done Nrg/Elec, SS/Fire, and Stone/Inv. All have soloed well.

This.

True, there are some sets you should only approach with both eyes open, and might not be the best for first-time players... but nothing available to Brutes will be a bad choice.

That said, Electric Armor DOES get better, but you'll be in your late twenties by the time it start feeling really complete.

For starting off? I'd suggest Invulnerability, Shield Defense, or Willpower. Those are good sets to start off with.

Ok, good Advice thank you. In terms of noob friendlyness would you say KM is one of the better powers for a new player? If not, which ones are the best for someone that is still wet behind the ears?

Also, off-topic a bit, Ive heard that scrappers tend to solo better than brutes, is there any truth to this slander? (lol)

KM is what I would call an "average" set. It has slightly lower overall damage then some sets, but good damage mitigation. It will function just fine for nearly all solo work, as well as normal teaming with AoE's like Burst.

As for Scrappers vs Brutes, they are roughly the same. Brutes tend to go faster then Scrappers in the 1-22 range, and around 22 scrappers catch up with brutes, and they go basically the exact same speed.

KM is fine for a new player, but if you want to play it, I'd recommend you do so on a scrapper. KM relies quite heavily on +damage buffs, and due to the mechanics of these, scrappers benefit far mroe than brutes (the same applied to the Shield Defense secondary). That's not to say a KM/SD brute would be bad by any means - as Candlestick said, all Brutes are good - but that it would be better as a scrapper (in return, some sets are better on Brutes - Willpower, for example, due to Brutes higher hitpoints increasing the effectiveness of its regenerative powers).

This advice stands for any Brute before you get SOs. Slot all your attacks with 2 Accuracy and as many End Reductions as you can and let Fury worry about the Damage. And with Stone make sure you take Stone Fists. The other powers are so slow to recharge you need it (and Brawl, keep Brawl on auto as it costs no End and adds to Fury)

I found my Dark/WP to basically be an unkillable machine.

Once you've gotten your Brute at the level where he can keep on trucking without stopping for Rests I find they solo about as well, or even better, than Scrappers (since their higher defenses mean you can get away with silly things. My Dark/WP has jumped into situations where I thought "Well now I'm dead, didn't spot that pair of +2 bosses in there as well" and come out alive).

My first melee set on a brute (4 years ago last thursday) was Dark Melee. Personally I would recommend Fiery Melee as your starter. It's a cut and dry set with excellent damage and AoE; it will set your expectations as you try different sets with different secondary effects.

My guides:Dark Melee/Dark Armor/Soul Mastery, Illusion Control/Kinetics/Primal Forces Mastery, Electric Armor
"Dark Armor is a complete waste as a tanking set."
