Updater - Warning
I dunno, but since I happen to have handy access to a Mac installation that can break without hurting me (I have two other installations available), I'm about to find out.
This is affecting my Macbook Pro, but my iMac is working fine. I tried deleting the installation and downloading the client from scratch, no go.
Found something that worked with my Macbook Pro. Borrowing a suggestion from a CuppaManga post on an unrelated problem I deleted my preferences file. I was able to patch and log in.
go to Users > (yourname) > Library > Preferences and throw out your City Of Heroes Preferences.
It didn't happen to me. Apparently YMMV.
I had no such problem with my Macbook Pro, but I did the pre-download patch previously. I wonder if the difference is whether or not you used the pre-download?
At any rate, if you're still having the issue try sending a support request to help.ncsoft.com so they can diagnose the issue.

Ultimately, since i was getting errors of the PIGG files being unable to delete, I went into the program and manually throwing out the PIGG files, just leaving the folder they were in (named piggs). The updater then ran fine, recreating the PIGG files.
Not exactly what you want to do for an update, going into the program and manually manipulating stuff, but it got the job done. So it seems all is well in this Mac-land.
I get to 35.8 M of the 850 M update and then a window pops up saying:
Updater - Warning
Can't delete file c:\coh/piggs/bin.pigg some other program has it open! Aborting.
It then quits CoH. Needless to say, it does not do the update, nor lets me get on CoH. What to do? Should I go into the CoH package and delete that file manually?
Anyone else having this issue? What do we do?
