I've got money set on you already downloading it, and not even realizing it.
In your City of Heroes directory there should be some big fat file named coh.majorpatch or something like that. That's it. It's right there, silently mocking you.
Now if you DON'T have that...well, that'll be interesting.

yup I do have that "major patch" file, but how did I get it with out realizing it? I didn't get any long download any time before or after the download announcement.

A couple of weeks ago* you probably played CoX, logged off, and might even have walked away from the computer as the CoX Updater launched and began downloading the patch. They've done this before for CoV as I recall, pre-downloading something large AFTER we log off so we're not staring at a half-hour download when we'd rather be playing.
*I can't remember the exact date, but if I remember correctly it was somewhere between 10 and 14 days ago -- there's an official announcement thread somewhere if you really want to look for it.

30 level 50's: 12 scrappers, 7 other random melee types, 11 blaster/blapper/support squishies, two accounts, and a TON of altitis since 4/28/04
The download was happening for some time before there was an announcement of it on the forums.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Yes, it was. I know that a couple of other longtime players and I guessed "oh, I bet it's the GR content" before they announced it, thanks to the previous episodes.
In some ways it's kind of like how they announce the Patch Notes the day after or the week of the patch, if we're lucky?
