Performance drop when entering a mob greater than 3 NPCs

This has been happening off and on for about two months now. I will be just fine and dandy until I actually attack with an AoE or walk into a mob (with a PBAoE like Cloak of Fear). Then I will completely lag out. /showfps 1 is showing .67 frames per sec in some cases. I have tried restarting my computer, and it does not fix the problem. I have lowered gfx to the lowest settings, still lags. /netgraph 1 is perfectly fine with very low green bars looking at a ping of 150. But if I walk into a mob, I get a solid green bar that is as big as it is allowed. /netgraph 2 shows the green off the screen. >.>

Here is my dxdiag info.

Any help would be an improvement.

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

:/ Last time I visited this forum, I remember every one with problems being told to post the DXdiag's or Hijackthis.... I will download those two applications saist and get back to yah.

I did however recently download my drivers from NVidia.... if you think it's a driver problem...

no. everyone has been asked to post a CohHelper and a HijackThis report.

and most likely what is causing your problem is either a dying video card or a very dirty computer.

there is also a sticky at the top of the section that is about asking for technical help.

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.

well, your video drivers are not that far behind, but update them anyways. also try to update your sound drivers. other then that, what i said before. it is probably a dying video card. check to make sure the fan on the video card is spinning. if not, try blowing the dust out.

Used some canned air and blew any dust off the GFX card, then tried another mob, same problem. I am currently downloading the newest drivers (though they are only a month newer, I am also uploading a video I made showing off how fun the lag is).

I wouldn't know why a GFX card would have anything to do with this problem. I run the game perfectly fine on ultra mode. I can watch OTHER people fight, I can use Single Target attacks, but if I use an AoE of any kind, bam, I lag to death. >.>

well, try making sure your ram is good by doing a stress test and making sure they are seated properly. you can also try reseting your modem and router. do not use the reset button. turn off the comp, unplug the power cords for the modem and router then remove the comp-ruter wire and the modem-router wire. wait 2 mins. then plug in the modem-router wire and the comp-router wire. then plug the power cord back in for the modem. wait 1 min. then plug in the power cord for the router. wait 1 min. then turn on the comp. if this doesn't help then let us know.

a video card dying will give you these problems. is the fan spinning at all? and not by you blowing on it with compressed air. nvidia has a program thaty will let you monitor the temps of both your cpu and gpu. if the gpu goes over 100c then there is a problem with the card.

the only other thing i can suggest is to do a disc clean up and defrag.

I wiped my HDD and reinstalled Vista 64 bit about 2 months ago.

GPU-Z is showing temps of 60 C and 52 C, fan spinning at 75% and 75% (2 cards SLI linked)

try bumping up the fan speed to 100%. also, how big is your PSU? and when did you put in your SLI? what OS were you using before vista 64 bit? seems this problem started occurring when you installed the current one.

Not sure how I can bump the fan speed up.

I used to use Vista 32 bit, but with 8 gigs of ram... I upgraded to 64 bit, and decided to just wipe and start over.

SLI has been on since the begining.

Had the same problems when I used 32 bit, and when I switched to 64 bit, everything was fine, so I was happy, then it started happening again.

PSU is a 730 watt PSU.

Here is the vid I made showcasing what happens.

And yes, this is what happens regularly now (which is why I solo a lot atm) Wegame recording didn't slow my PC at all.
Also, only half my computers rescources are getting used. info from cpu meter side bar thingie.

ok. i have vista 32 bit and have never had this problem. in fact, i didn't get any problems running the game until i went with a wireless card connection. are you running a wired or wireless connection? if wireless, you might need to update the drivers for the wireless card. do not let windows search for it as it will tell you that you have the most up to date version. i checked and my drivers version is 2 years old and the newest is a year old.

Wired. I reinstalled my vid card drivers, and nothing improved :/

make sure that your compatibility mode is not set in the game properties. also, try disabling your SLI and see if the game runs fine without it.

Not in compatability mode, and tried with SLI off, still does it.

Ok started up my PC today, was looking around on GPU-Z and made a second screen shot and compared the two. Only thing different was the old screen shot was saying the bus interface was PCI-E x16 @x4, newest screen shot showed PCI-E x16 @ x16.

I started up CoH and tested, it works fine now. >.>

Any one know how I can change it back to x16 if it switches to x4 again?

Two comments about game performance impactors.

1) Audio components are just as big a problem causer as video. Even when it appears you are having a video problem, it may be caused by your audio set up. My advice is to make sure you have the latest audio drivers installed as well (yours were over a year out of date in your diag).

2) With video and audio drivers it is important to first uninstall your old driver, reboot, then install your new driver.

CoH is more sensitive than any other application/game I run. I recently had a BSOD problem whlie running the game (no other application caused it). All indicators were some sort of memory problem. Testing the onboard RAM showed it was good. I tried un-installing CoH and re-installing in case I had a corrupted .pigg file. Updating the video drivers didn't help either. Simply installing new audio drivers over the existing ones (for a Soundblaster card), didn't fix it. It wasn't until I un-installed the audio drivers and installed them fresh that my problems went away.

My Bus interface has changed again to PCI x16 @ 8 and I have begun to experience the same lag in large mobs. Any suggestions to switching it back to PCI x16 @16 or is this just a sign of a dieing vid card. I have not messed with the video card settings or drivers.
