My Claw/SR IO Build - Opinions Please?

This is my attempt at a not-super-expensive IO set build for my Claws/SR. It's based on a build that someone posted a while back - can't find the thread now or I'd give them credit. I need fly for concept reasons and I don't like the Medicine pool but everything else is negotiable. What do you think?

Depends a bit on your expectations of what the build should be able to do. It's relatively weak for overall chance to hit, max health, and passive regeneration. I'd be looking at trying to improve all those, directly or indirectly.

Of course the catch is the cost, but there are a couple things you could do. First you have six total or one too many +5% recharge bonuses in the build so I'd remove some slots from Stamina. One or more of those could be shifted to Health and used to slot the Heal uniques (Miracle +recovery and Numina's Regen/+Recovery). Next slot Performance Shifter +End in both Stamina and Phys Perfection. Those 4 IO's will do wonders for your endurance sustainability. Add the +Max Endurance accolades and you should be able to run Focused Accuracy when desired. The other thing would be to slot a Kismet+6% somewhere. Combat Jumping would be a good place without having to move other slots around. I'd personally be tempted to move a slot out of Practiced Brawler and into Combat Jumping then overwrite the jump IO and slot both the Kismet and a Stealth IO in there. Cost for these 4 IO's isn't in my book so much influence as time spent running task forces for the merits. Earning Task Force Commander would not only add to your Max Health but the merits will essentially pay for one of these IO's.

As Doomguide says, depends what you're looking to get out of the set. Also how much you're able/willing to spend.

My suggestions... maybe look at putting the full 6 of the Gaussian Fire-Control set in Follow-up. Gives some nice bonuses especially at 6 you get that set of Defense bonuses. Also look at Scirocco sets in your AoE attacks. You'll get a regen and accuracy bonus and at the 5th you'll get an AoE defense bonus. Same thing with Stamina instead.. put in Performance Shifter instead of Efficacy. The Aegis set in Tough is nice but I personally wouldn't bother too much with it if you can get your regen rate higher... particularly if you put in 2 sets of Luck of the Gambler (Def and the 7.5% Global recharge) in your auto powers of Dodge, Agile, and Lucky. Higher regen as well as higher def slotting that way as well as increased recharge. I would also probably go with Hover and drop Air Superiority and Combat Jump and drop another 7.5% LotG in it. Then you shouldn't need to 2 slot Practiced Brawler with that recharge and it should still double stack.

Now if you're realllly willing to fork out the funds, look at dropping in a few purple sets say in Focus, Shockwave, Slash and maybe Boxing as well as picking up Hasten. Then Focused Accuracy won't be needed with the accuracy bonuses you'll get as well as recharge bonuses.

That's just up the top of my head. Good job at looking to put in Touch of Death and Red Fortune sets to start with. Not a bad start for a Claws/SR.

Looks quite solid as is.

Small stuff:
If you intend to spend much time running in exemplar and not exclusively endgame content then ideally Kismet needs to be slotted in a power that will be available at the lower end of the level range you believe you'll be playing. The level of the IO matters not, but the power it is in must be active and running for Kismet to provide its bonus. Likewise, factoring in the cost, I'd always look to slot the lowest level possible of LotG +7.5%, Steadfast resist/+3% def, and -kb IO's as their level and not the power they are in determines if they provide their bonus or not.

Your build is a good start, to be sure.

I took a look at what you had and did a little tweaking. I tried not to jack up the price too much, and I didn't change any of your power selections, but I think you'll see a little better performance here.

Notably, this build takes advantage of the very powerful 6-pc. Gaussian's bonus to enable you to move some slots around and pick up additional bonuses in other places. It also adds the Achilles' Heel -res proc in Slash, which I've found very useful on my Claw/SR. Also, I moved your Miracle +recovery unique to Physical Perfection, where you can take advantage of the slightly hax way recovery bonuses in that power are calculated. With Focused Accuracy on an SR, you're going to need all the recovery you can get.

One thing worthy of note; on an SR without the medicine pool you want to pick up as much +hp and +regen bonus as you can get, because these are the things that will keep you standing when the badguys get lucky and smack you through your softcapped defense. I slipped the three-piece Numina's and Miracle set bonuses in to help you out a bit there. Be sure you pick up your +hp and +end accolades, they're very important for an SR.

I'm sure I could find a few more things to tweak, but this should set you on the right path without breaking the bank.

If the budget is a little steep, you can replace some of the LotG's with cheaper defense sets in the short term without really breaking anything (but if you do too much of that, you'll have to go back to two slots in Practiced Brawler).

Hey, Wildwind. I took your build and swapped out Fly for Super Jump. How's it look?

I had to take out one LotG because taking out Hover brought down the positional defense to just below softcap. Swapped out the one in Lucky for a Defense IO.

Also, the level 49 power is bound to change; I just grabbed whatever and at level 49 I'll decide what I need based on the experience with the build.

Could you possibly explain what you mean about the "hax" way that the Recovery enhancements work in Physical Perfection? Thanks.

Well, I should note that the above is not really my best build, it's just what I could put together on the spur of the moment with the power selections the original poster had taken.

If I was building from scratch I'd probably do a few things a little differently. My own claw/sr build doesn't even have a travel power, relying instead on ninja/run, and is softcapped without even taking Combat Jumping.

As for Physical Perfection, I myself am not 100% clear on how it works, except that I know that slotting +recovery enhancements in PP gives you an extra bonus because of the interaction between the +recovery enhancement and the Endurance Mod enhancements slotted in the same power. Someone explained it to me once, but I don't remember the details. It's possible that this has since been fixed, also, as that was some time ago.

That said, your changes look OK at a glance; losing one LotG will not cripple the build.

There are better claw/SR masters on this board than me, though, for sure. You might want to look up some of BillZBubba's posts for reference.

I don't think Bill ever posted / posts his Claws/SR build(s). And if he did it was a long time ago and before many IO changes
