GR is a new start zone and i'm afraid... Players are divided into three zones
The only safe zone you have, i believe Kinetic set is not GR exclusive so people would also start a new kinetic toon on the 'normal' CoH.
But indeed, the majority will go out and play GR, wich is quite time consuming if you want to follow the entire arch (and redo it several times due to several spin-offs based on your choices).

There are a few threads already about it here in the lounge
Basically there will be a brand new supergroup on each server, 1 on each hero/villain side. All linked together via a global channel.
The plan is to get players having all different alts in each of the servers and to have the channel to organise "cross server" teaming as such. True you wont be able to use character A on Server A with character A on server B, but by using this method of a truely global supergroup/channel we can actually make teaming as close to multi server as we [as players] can get to.
The thread "Europe United" explains it much better than i did but lets use an example in which i will find myself in once this happens.
Once GR/i18 launches i will have new alts on each server. Now with the channel up i will be able to recruit for teams on the server im currently on/join one or even log on to the other servers if theres already teams forming there.

*your defiant alt is still in vocal contact with everybody in the supergroup on all four servers*

It really is a simple context, and obviously quite a few people will like to stick to their own server which is fair enough and welcomed. But by having both supergroups and villaingroups on all servers, you've always got a home whereever you go and can talk to everybody who joins on every server
Potentially you could go from potentially teaming with 200+ people on one server to 6/700 + people in total
Like i said though, the other thread makes more sense of it
