My 1st 50! SS/INV... now what?

So, as the title says I hit 50 on my SS/INV and its my very 1st 50 (yay!).

That being said, I now need to start looking into this IO stuff. I clearly have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to this, nor do I have any idea what a SS/INV brute should be going for.

I normally play a very offensive defence, if that makes any sense, I sorta just wade in there Foot Stomp to get every ones attention absorb the alpha and then start swinging, as long as it isn't too crazy, or packed with Psi based mobs, I tend to survive, it gets a little wacky when its all purples but I run those with a team so I tend to survive those as well haha.

I posted my build, its just SO's, the powers are picked at the levels I got them, but the slotting is not, so pay no attention to those. Regarding slotting, I had extra slots I had no idea where to put them so I just stuck them various places, I took everything except taunt, hurl and hand clap; as fun as hurl/hand clap can be its just not very useful for my play style (I have them on build 2 slotted with foolish things like +KB in hand clap, just for fun, ahaha)

I realize I might not have the tightest build, and I'm open to suggestions on how to improve it. (despite what some people say I really enjoy Unstoppable)

Lastly, I'm looking for something to aspire too, but I'm not sure If I want to spend the next month farming hardcore to get the Infamy for all the purples, normally dont really see much of a difference between orange and purple but maybe its because I'm a newb to these things.

That being said, I don't mind farming, I just dont know if farming to buy a single 200M enchancement is worth it

Anyways, I think I talked too much as is, much appreciated for your time and help

-Dex

Your build looks very solid to me, so basically the only thing to do is add IOs and possibly change some slotting in order to get the best IO bonuses for you. The only thing I'd modify with SOs is change the 2nd Accuracy SO in each attack for EndRed or Rech because you have Invincibility and Rage giving you quite a bit of extra +ToHit.

You could check Call_Me_Awesome's guide to soft capping Invuln or my Kat/Inv guide for slotting ideas to build for yourself, too, but here's a rough build how I'd do it if I had very little influence to start with.

If you have any questions about the build, feel free to ask.

Thank you for your time, I appreciate it.

I guess after shifting some things around I have about 30M infamy right now, but my auctioneer has about 260M on him(selling things on the market) once going Rogue hits I'll have access to that on my brute, but that's not to say I won't go farming for things, that's the whole point of these end builds to aspire to something right?

Few questions,

Why boxing? I like jabs cheap disorient, cant tell you how many times I've tabbed and jabbed something in the face to have it stagger around and then tab back to what I was fighting

Also why no Unstoppable, I think its a pretty good "Oh crap button" also good for tanking certain heroes.

I guess I don't really understand the slotting either, what is a SS/INV brute looking for? Defence/DMG and what exactly (recharge/end reduction)?

The ancillary power pools dont really seem that fantastic to me, yet you've taken two. Why? is it for the set bonuses you get from the IO'ing?

Regarding IO'ing wouldnt it be better to have ones that are around lvl 50 and not 10(ish) levels below?

Once again thanks for your time, and thanks for helping me understand.

P.S sorry one more question, I thought having dull pain up as much as possible was the goal, so 3 recharges?

I pretty much agree with DSorrow here. His build is also very solid given your budget, with the most expensive probably being the eradication set.

I can't speak for him, but to answer your questions:

Boxing is slightly more powerful, and still has the disorient (though it's not something a raging brute really needs). The main reason why you should replace boxing for jab is to free yourself one more power slot.

Largely because an IO'd out invuln will find themselves less and less reliant on it. Personally I probably would keep it for as you said those rare moments, not to mention it can be handy as a set mule.

In order of priority, I would say go: 45%+ Smashing/Lethal defense & 32.5%+ Energt/N. Energy defense > +HP/+End (and to a lesser extent +regen and +recovery) > recharge.

Gloom is an amazing power, one of the best ST damage attacks a brute of any kind gets. Dark Obliteration is a decent, front-loaded aoe, that adds to your already solid aoe output.

I think this is a price thing: the difference in performance between a lvl 45 and 50 IO isn't that big, but the price difference is huge, especially for someone on a budget.

DP is slotted for max rech via sets in DS' build, try turning pop-ups on and seeing the values on your Mids?

Tangler pretty much covered everything I was going to say.

As for the lack of Unstoppable, I've played an Invuln scrapper for two years now without it and haven't really missed it with the added Defense. On the Scrapper I have ~38% S/L and 36% E/NE Defense with one enemy in melee range, and often a purple inspiration does a better job than Unstoppable. Then, I also have Eye of the Magus (= Demonic accolade) which helps me for when I really need a survivability boost, and that's not too often so the recharge on that shiny isn't a problem.

Brutes do have higher Resistance caps and you're expected to tank so it might be worth it, but personally I hate the crash. What good is it in an AV fight if you can survive for the first three minutes and then be one hit? Besides, most AVs that can beat you when you aren't running Unstoppable last longer than the three minutes Unstoppable stays on for. Better just stick to purple/orange inspirations, IMO.

About the APP choice. As Tangler said, Gloom is an astoundingly good single target attack, which I think will help Super Strength's rather anemic ST damage (this is my experience). Dark Obliteration was an obvious follow-up to Gloom, because it needed no further power picks and it's not a bad power, you get solid front-loaded AoE damage and an AoE ToHit debuff which stacks with your Defense. Between that and Foot Stomp you should be completely safe in most spawns.

As for the IOs being level 45 (or lower), I prefer to plan my builds with those for a few reasons. First of all, level 49s cost half what level 50s cost to craft, and on top of that the recipe is often significantly cheaper. Two, you might get some of the recipes at lower levels while leveling up and that way you can use them without "hurting your build". Also some of the sets I've used cap at levels lower than 50. Smashing Haymaker, for instance.

And yes, Dull Pain is slotted for max Recharge. With a kineticist in your team or any other +Rech buffs available you should have perma Dull Pain. I also strongly recommend that you get the four passive accolades and Demonic.

P.S. Generally when I build a melee character, I first get enough survivability (mostly Defense, then Regen/HP) so that I can stick around doing DPS without worrying much about my HP. After that, I focus on getting +Recharge. I'd use +Damage too, but the bonuses for that aren't as spectacular as they are for Recharge.
