Vid card question

I am getting a GTX 470 on this coming Tuesday, a week before Going Rogue. Here is my system specs:

What kind of fps increase should I be expecting for most games? I was initially worried when I built this PC 2 1/2 yrs ago because the fastest Nvidia card was the 8800 GTS 512 (G92) which was a refresh from the previous year's 8800 technology.

EDIT: also, will my PSU be enough for this all?

Well an 8800GTS 512MB is a underclocked GTS 250. Looking over at techPowerUp, their relative performance of a GTX 470 at 1920x1200 with AA/AF puts it about twice as fast as a GTS 250. And actually the 8800 GTS 512MB was the first card that used a fully enabled (all 128 SPs) G92 GPU which did have some improvements over the original G80.

As for the PSU, don't know, 650 watt BFG isn't a lot to go on. The only example I found of a 650 watt BFG power supply has two 20 amp, 12 volt rails which, lacking any additional information suggests a max of 480 watts at 12 volts.

nVidia officially lists 550 watts PSU as minimum and eVGA adds at least 38 amps at 12 volts to that spec. The GTX 470 uses an additional 70 watts of 12 volt power over your current card (145 Vs 215 watts).

My guess is it should work but you may want to consider upgrading to a more modern PSU. For instance the Corsair TX650 can deliver 52 amps at 12 volts or 624 of the rated 650 watts.

Nah heh I am sure I will be fine, I used to keep up with this stuff constantly until after years of doing it I just figured out it was depressing me, since I couldn't get what I wanted when I wanted it.

Now I usually just look stuff up when I can finally make some purchases. Should be delivered later today.

Hmm.... I wouldn't need to reinstall drivers at all, would I... I already have the latest installed for my 8800 GTS 512, unless you think I should.

To be on the safe side. No idea if portions of the drivers are card specific.

Edit: to make myself clear, yes, uninstall and reinstall.

Ok, I uninstalled it then ran that one driver cleaner program. I only got around 2000 points above where I was with the 8800 gts in 3Dmark 2006, but I got around triple what I was getting in Passmark for the graphics test. I noticed a big difference when playing Global Agenda.

I think I might be more bottlenecked now with my processor.

Or that 3DMark06 isn't a good test.

The GTX 470 has fewer texture units than the 8800GTS 512MB (running slower) but 3.5x more shader power and 2.3x maximum pixel throughput. Before shader performance became the bottleneck it was textures and older versions of 3DMark tend to weigh that more than shader performance. The 3DMarkVantage would show a greater difference but the real proof is in actual games.
