I've read online that some people have changed the updater to cohupdater.eu.exe?
Please don't tell me I have to wait on a 3gig update again?
Redo this thread in the technical issues forum. You will likely get more help in there. Also, there is a regularly scheduled maintenance Thursdays... Might be right around the time you were trying to log in. I am sure that that .eu updater is for accessing the europe servers. the client you have would access the US servers.
I'm trying to access the EU servers. When I change the updater it starts updating again, from scratch. I'll try this thread in the technical help section though, thanks.

I tried using the non changed .exe shortcut again, it loads up straight away, but still my username/password is invalid. I think it's the EU thing to be honest.
It's just very frustrating that I'll have to wait all day for the updates all over again. My download speed should be something like 5mbps but with the updater is ridiculously slow.

Move cohupdater.eu.exe to your desktop. Go into your game directory and delete coh.checksum, cityofheroes.exe (or cityofheroes.eu.exe) and cohupdater.prv. Then run the updater on your desktop and point it at the correct directory for the game. At this point it should only download the .exe files and then "fix" files. When it's done you can delete the updater on the desktop since there will be a copy in the game folder.

Tried creating a shortcut on the desktop and removing the files you named.
Updater has been stuck on "Downloading File Manifest" for the past 15 minutes.
I don't know how CoX can expect to bring in new/old players when this is what you have to go through to get the game running. Maybe the exceptionally slow speed is just me, but I get a download rate of about 400kbps+ with everything else and I've read other testimonies online of people with similar problems.
I even considered buying a more up to date version on disc (I already bought the CoX disc, but can't find it) but they don't sell anything more up to date in Europe? I can't even buy it from the Amazon.com website because they won't deliver to the UK.
Exceptionally dissapointing. Glad I only wasted money on 1 month instead of 3 or more.
From what I understand, you are supposed to move the updater file itself to the desktop. Creating a shortcut to it won't work. (I think it'll try to overwrite itself while running which doesn't work.)

I renewed my subscription to CoH earlier today after downloading the client and updating last night.
I tried to login, but got a message about server maintenance, which I checked and it turns out there is work being done until roughly 15:00 UK time. However I've tried logging in again, got an "incorrect password" message. I changed my password through the NCSoft Account management, but still it won't let me login.
Any suggestions?
