Hamidon Empathy Slotting

My first 50, an Emp/Elec defender has stayed dormant for about 4 years. Friends in game have told me that they had run across some less than stellar empaths on our server. (funny how we remember the bad experiences so much more than the good ones)
So, I dusted him off - and brought him to the hive.

I won't go into build specifics - I can do a planner to get all the numbers. I just wanted to know if the crafted non-generic IO sets are worth the effort of me playing the market and earning merits.

For a post issue 9 raid to succeed, it seems that there are buffs galore - why bother for a minor percentage improvement that to my ignorant eyes seem insignificant? Especially when raiding on my server is not being done on a regular basis - yet.

I will slot this character with purple sets - when I'm done with the other toons that I will play much more often - but in the meantime, do you think the mitos and hamidon are going to notice a 3% mez resistance? (3 percent of the time, maybe they will)

Just looking for feedback, no build suggestions. If there is someone who has played an emp on the scrapper team enough to feel comfortable chatting about it in game or through PMs on the forums, I'd appreciate it.

I know you said you aren't looking for build advice, but the key thing is +recharge.

Even grabbing doctored wounds (2 heals, regen aura and Absorb pain (5+endmod)) and red fortune (fortitude), which will give you an extra 25% recharge is noticeable.
This is also rather cheap

I done a few hami raids on the Yellow Teams as team emp, and even done emp duty on Hami Agg team on Justice.

The one and only thing you need as a empathy on a hami raid is recharge.... buffs/heals up as fast as you possibly can. As for defense... keep a few EoE for yourself.

Purple sets are good because they provide +10% Recharge for 5 pieces. (Mostly, SoulBound Allegiance in Voltaic Sentinel is an exception, dont bother with that. Get Call To Arms instead or Expedianet Reinforcement instead.)

I'd consider respeccing into the Psi Epic Pool, because you have a sleep and a confuse in there these days, both of which take the (relatively) cheaper purple sets. Stick the Unbreakable Constraint set in one hole (Dominate or Tesla cage) and Basilisk's Gaze in the other.

This won't be cheap, by the way, but recharge is well worth chasing on an Empath.

Thanks very much. Advice from the Catwhoorg is typically good enough to have paid for it. I'll take your suggestions.

Thanks also to Dr. Mike and Pinkpup as well.

I am a fan of hamis in fortitude. 3 slots maxes out all the relevant attributes, and a fourth slot can take a LotG +rech. Of course, if you don't already have them, the def/tohit/rech hamis are pretty stupid expensive (are any of the other hamis even in demand?)

But yes, other then that, chase those recharge bonuses.

PS: I think that 5 doctored wounds + an end mod is for adrenaline boost not absorb pain.

You are going to want some recharge and possibly some +HP as well. Grab at least 13 points of KB protection (Acro + one -KB IO should do it) in case you get hit with a blast from a loose yellow, as an Emp that's getting tossed around isn't going to be saving anyone.

...or don't go near the yellows. No KB protection on my emp and KB hasn't ever been an issue.

If you're considering a build just for raids then you'll want to do two things: slot for as much + recharge as you can cheaply and slot certain powers in ways not normally slotted for PvE play.

Healing Aura- 5 doctored wounds

Heal Other- 5 doctored wounds + 1 Range

Absorb Pain- 5 doctored wounds + 1 Range (AP is useful as hami and green attacks reduce the amount of heal that lands by a %. If your AP is slotted fully you can often heal a debuffed scrapper or tank by enough to keep them standing till the debuff wears off.

Clear Mind- 1 Recharge + 1 Range

Fortitude- 2-3 Recharge + 1 Range (Hami and gang aren't hard to hit and ignore high defense--you're only using this for the damage buff.)

Regen Aura- 5 doctored wounds (+ regen is what makes hero hami raids a breeze)

Recovery Aura- 2-3 Recharge ( you could use Efficacy adapter for the +5 set recharge bonus if you only have 4 sets of doctored wounds equipped)

Adrenaline Boost- 5 doctored wounds + 1 Range (normal PvE I slot this for Endurance Mod to overcome Tier 9 nuke -recovery periods. For a raid you're using this to prevent your main tank from succumbing to green debuffs and hami damage thus the heal set).

Rez- 2-3 Recharge + 1 Range

Honorable mention powers:
Recall (You really don't want to go in to rez that guy that just got back from being AFK in time to die after a respawn)
Assault (+18% damage for your team)
Tactics (Fear resistance)
Any holds from your secondary or ancillary (help rip through greens faster)

Briarpatch covers it pretty much... can't believe I forgot about range IOs.

And of course, Fly... and Hasten.

And five LoTG 7.5% recharge procs if you can find the slots for them.

And if you have the slots, add another range to your Rez.... its nice to able to do a fast fly-by Res on someone besides a teammate.

Really I never had a problem playing a emp on the raids I've been on.... usually the problem is someone else (like one, were these two non-teamed tanks kept getting yellow agg and bring down the green team). Of all the jobs you can get, the yellow team is usually the worst cus you never know how good the scappers on it are. Yellow agg.... you need some solid tanks, so you just need to zip around healing and buffing. Main Hami Agg team, its just keeping your Stone alive and buffed, and a eye on the fellow emp and kin.

I won't be surprised if you find yourself on the Hami Agg team more then any other, the Raid Leader usually likes known and reliable players there.

Hey, all very useful information.

Now, I have a tip to share. Park the emps in a PvP zone for boosted recharge of 7.5% (you know the drill, the longer you're parked there, the longer the buff)

Put extra recharge in your rez, make sure to use hasten and as much recharge as possible. add range to Clear Mind. Honestly, having doctored wounds sets are nice, but i used the heal/end redux HO's coupled with 3 IO recharges. I picked every emp power and 6 sloted it cept the rez and CM....and absorb pain, which doesnt need 6 slots, but maybe 3-4.
Pick thebody mastery APP for power build up. Remember, maximize your slots and go for as much recharge as possible. Multiple travel pool picks can be helpful like recall friend, SS, hover, hasten and so forth.
