Ultra Mode Locks Up in Quit

I've looked through the forums and I haven't seen anything quite like my problem. The game runs fine in Ultra mode. When I quit CoH it just kind of hangs. I've let it sit for over 45 minutes before. I have to go into the Control Panel and stop the process.

I'm thinking it's probably something with my video, nVidia (eVGA) GeForce 8800 GTS 512.

not sure what to tell you.

Your drivers aren't that horribly out of date, but you might want to update them first.

Curious, are you using evga precision while in game? I've been having this issue lately. Found out (literally about 5 minutes ago) that the game will not close out when precision is still running. Closing precision before closing the game allowed it to exit normally.

Actually, yes, I AM using Precision. That's weird! I'll try and close Precision and see if it helps.

So did this work for you? I'm certain this was the cause of my lock ups. I've also noted that I could not change graphics settings in game while precision was running without locking up.

It works intermittently. Sometimes when I close Precision with CoH open it crashes and I get that 'CoH has encountered an error, so tell us what you were doing when it happened so we can fix it' thing.

However, if closing Precision doesn't crash CoH, then yes it does work.

I've had similar experiences when changing settings. If I change any of the ultra settings when I click apply my entire field of view goes black. I still have my map and target and menu bars and stuff but everything else is black. If I hit tab it changes targets like it's supposed to. I can't remember if I still get a targeting bracket, but it's all black black black.

PS Sorry I didn't update sooner. I got busy for a couple of days and didn't get a chance to log in!

Thanks for this. I was having this issue as well while running MSI Afterburner, which is essentially the same program: a derivative of RivaTuner. Shutting off Afterburner worked like a charm. Interestingly though, this problem only cropped up when I switched to an Nvidia GTX 460 from an ATI Radeon HD 5870; so I'd have to guess that this is a problem with the way RivaTuner/Precision/Afterburner monitors Nvidia cards, not ATI.

steveb, RivaTuner and the variants are a program designed specifically for the nVidia cards. They don't run with ATI cards.


If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I also haven't been able to quit CoH without getting "CoH has encountered a problem and will now close" Error message from the game lately. But I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2300 not anything Nvidia. And my graphics manager CCC (as I said in my other thread), doesn't even launch now so it can't be that. At least in my case.

For the past couple of days CoH has been locking up when opening the Costumes Window. I guess this is a known issue.

But I'm also locking up when entering my base. It doesn't matter which server or base I'm trying to get into or how I get there (Base 'Porter or Base Portal), the client locks up. It's getting rather discouraging.

That is my problem too. Also ATI card (EAX1600). That started since I17 come live.
Can live with that (planing to upgrade graphic card soon) but don't know will there be problems with GR, since I can't get preload.
If only problem will be having to download everything on release day - then I'll wait for new graphic card to fix that. If preload is necessary - then I need help!
