Advice for Choosing Health or Hold

I'm pretty new to CoH, but I've been playing long enough to gather my own opinions on powers other people typically pass on or never go without. As a blaster, I know it's typical for me to die first if things go awry. First off, I'm an Elec/Dev blaster, and because of this problem, I'm considering getting Aid Other, then Aid Self so I can at least heal myself a little and maybe die less often. Although, I'd need to choose two powers to refuse. I like being a more well-rounded blaster, which is why I originally chose Air Superiority for a melee attack, but I could remove this one. I'm also planning on choosing Shocking Bolt from Electrical Mastery, which is why I'm considering removing Tesla Cage. But I know that power is good to have as a hold when exemplared. Anyway, I'd like opinions on if I should choose: Aid Other, Aid Self; or Air Superiority, Tesla Cage. I may also consider passing on Short Circuit or Smoke Grenade.

Tesla Cage and Shock Bolt stacked will allow you to hold a boss...


The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

Go with the Hold. You aren't quite a tanker, so most of the time you will be desperately trying to heal yourself, and then die.

Tesla Cage is a better Hold than Shocking Bolt, if only because it applies a 100% -Recovery Debuff every time. Shocking Bolt does some more damage, but it's not enough to make a difference unless you get Damage/Mezz HOs in there.
