Graphics Card
What's your budget? What's the wattage on your power supply? You may want to also pick up a power supply because if you've got a 6150 you've likely got a stock machine off the shelf with a 250-350W PSU, most gaming cards look for 480-600W.
You might get a more enthusiastic response to this particular kinda question from the scary tech-heads who lurk in the Tech Issues & Bugs forum (<--linky).
Folks here are whizzes with in-game questions like Where do I get a Cape? but many of the really tech-savvy types lurk elsewhere (no offense intended Awesomus!).
I need help finding out if my graphics card is good enough or if i need to upgrade to a newer one. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE.
I've downloaded the 14-day free trial and my games running a bit slow and laggy even though I've completely closed anything and everything running in the background. |
Off the top of my head the 6150 was never released with AGP support, so you "should" have a PCIE-16x slot available on your motherboard.
As the others have suggested, tell us how much you want to spend, and we can point you in a right direction.
I can tell you that if you want City of Heroes in Ultra Mode you'll be having to spend at least $100:

Okay, budget-wise I wanna try to keep it at $100. The model is a compaq ss5510r or something like that. As for the slot, I asked a friend and he mentioned something like what y'all mentioned a couple posts ago.
The model number is s5510f by the way (puzzled that out).
If that's true, then you do have PCIe slot availible (16x)
However, you only have a 220W power supply which is going to SEVERELY limit your options. You case looks pretty non-standard too (it's a slimline type deal) so I'm not sure if that power supply is proprietary or not... (EDIT: Looks like it's a Flex ATX power supply which means you have some options for upgading that...but not too many)
Yeah, you're right. sr5510f, i couldn't remember what the last letter was. but if i were to wanna start playing this game as soon as possible, what would i have to buy for my computer?
You can probably play now, you'll just have to turn a lot of the graphic settings down and won't get top-notch FPS. I played like that for years. For playing "pretty" you're probably going to have to replace both the power supply and the graphics card (if, indeed, the slot is there and it sounds like there may be some logistical problems with a bigger power supply).
Dec out.
but how would i go about changing the graphics settings for the game though? like, i just wanna be able to play as soon as i can, before this trial ends and i commit to actually buying the game again...
