What can challenge a fire/kin?
If anything Im betting anything past a BU from the melee set will effect SC.
This is pure speculation of coarse, but I feel that Castle may feel that the damage buff Agenst All Odd from the sheild set may be to powerful and needs to be ajusted. It may be put more in line with how Willpowers Rise to the Challenge perfoms.Meaning just enough to help, but not be totally overwelming. The thought about how AAO wont effect SC at all has crossed my mind as well. Pure Speculation at this point, and its just a uneducated guess, but Judging by the damage my SD/Axe Tanker can dish out, its one possibility. Iv capped hitting a mob for 550ish damage with SC with a BU and full AAO saturation at lvl 41.This might be far more damage then they intended for SC to do. |
There are a few builds that can challenge, or even beat a fire/kin in farming speed, most of them have already been mentioned. The real benefit of a fire/kin is that they're extremely cheap and easy to farm with. A lot of the other builds mentioned are either more difficult to play, require a lot more IO'ing to be effective, or both.
As someone who has both a 50 fire/kin/stone(soft capped s/l) and a ss/fire/mu brute (needs work only +50% global rech), I have to say the following:
I experienced a lot more consistent purple dropping on my Liberate Nemesis Farm as opposed to my Defend Warriors from BM farm at -1/X8 & +0/X8. The fire/kin/stone can handle the +3/X8 a lot easier than an ss/fire/mu brute can without +max hp accolades. Granted I don't have the best global recharge on him yet, but the brute is just far more expensive than the fire/kin as the above poster said. I'd wager to say Liberate farm is a better mission for purples and enemy count than Defend Warriors from BM. Nemesis are a lot harder given their double stacked vengeance as opposed to simply softcapping s/l vs Praetorians in Warriors.
I IO'ed my Spines/Dark/Dark scrapper into a farmer about 4 years ago, no purples and the only really expensive items were: Recovery/Regeneration; Recovery uniques. I spent at most 250 million and he falls only slightly behind a fire/kin of equivlent stature... it's only his recharge that's suffering.
Granted I've only seen 2 Fire/Kins do a farm, but if the rest were are only slightly faster, I feel I could easily surpass them in efficiency with a few IO updates and still be a cheap alternative. That said, I'm hoping to retire my Spines/Dark from farming once I've gotten my /ELA fully slotted. I wonder how it's going to work out, /ELA doesn't have nearly as powerful a heal and has a much longer recharge.
the best fire/kin trollers are /ice or /stone for soft capping, don't bother using flashfire for faster kill rates on spawns, and probably have around 90% global rech thru io's. The purpled ones get 102% global rech with soft capping. What remains the heated debate is if hotfeet and fire cages should be dmg proc'd or purpled.
There are a few pluses going for Fire/Kins, and quite a few negatives:
Positive:
+ Uncommonly resisted damage type
+ Good AoE (containment + Hot Feet + Fulcrum Shift is very good)
+ Unsuppressed Movement Speed
+ Self Heal
+ Self Endurance Recovery
+ Plus Damage
+ Plus Recharge
+ Good even on SOs
Negatives:
- Only good against Smashing Lethal Damage types. (Wether you go with Stone, Fire, or Psi. All three have their perks)
- No Mez Protection (unless you use Psi, which even then, its not always perma)
- Bosses slow the killing speed down, sometimes making FS drop and making your killing time sky rocket
- +2 bosses or higher level mobs will make you need more than 4 pts of knock back prot.
- Pretty much needs a second build for teams.
- Can get very repetitive
- Imps are friggin annoying =)
- Not so powerful on teams.
- Comes with SB, so every friggin minute you will get some one to scream for their dose of crack.
- Only real debuff is -Regen. (not horrible, but if you want to kill some AV's, prepare to spam it)
Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.
1) The damage done by Shield Charge is much higher than that specified by Castle when he was designing the set.
2) Castle is unhappy with the relative damage levels of dark/shield and fire/shield.
What is almost certain:
1) Shield Charge will be adjusted in I18.
What we don't know:
1) The nature of the adjustment. The common rumor is that the damage at the point of impact will remain the same, while damage in the rest of the affected radius will be reduced.
2) What, if anything, will be done to reduce the damage done by dark/shield.
If anything Im betting anything past a BU from the melee set will effect SC.
