Can't get into the game.

Since the last Issue I have not been able to load the game. I get as far as picking a character and the load screen comes up, but half way through it seizes up, and I get a crash message.

I've done all my maintenance, including emptying cashe and defraging, so not sure what is up. I was not having this prob prior to the last update.

Everyone please note, this Dell does not have any AGP or PCIe slots for a different video card. It is using a PCI video card. Also maximum system memory is only 1GB.

Sorry, just trying to stop all the "buy a better video card" and "you should get more memory" talk before it begins.

I was going to suggest a driver upgrade but it appears you have the latest that's available.

Cool, thanks for looking out.

I've done everything I could think of, things jut seemed to go south with I17 and he last update.

This worries me, as I have Going Rogue pre-ordered. Gonna be real pissed if I can't even play it. COH was one of the last MMOS I could play (that I liked).

Have you tried starting the game in Safe Mode (it's a checkbox at the bottom of the patcher, on the screen where you agree to the EULA)? Also, it can't hurt to Verify the files (although the updater might have already done this automatically).

Also, try different characters (especially ones in different zones, different faction, and different servers).

If you really want to try and make the game playable (sort of) on that system then there are two things you can try.

First, free up space on your C: drive. Get rid of any programs you don't use any more. Move your itunes directory and any video or picture files to a different drive. Just do all you can to free up space. Defragging doesn't do a lot of good when you have so little space left, and when playing the game you are going to be using that pagefile a lot.

Second. Before loading the game kill off every single program that isn't absolutely necessary for keeping the computer running. That includes itunes and even your anti virus and spyware protection. As long as you are only connecting to the game and absolutely nothing else while you are playing then your firewall should be plenty of protection. You need to free up as much of that RAM as possible. When the system crashes during a loading bar it's almost always memory related. And that's why you need to free up RAM and also free up disk space so that your page file can operate more quickly.

Is there a reason you haven't upgraded your system before now though? I know computer hardware isn't cheap but that's why God invented Ramen and basic cable. Lord knows I've had to go that route more than a few times when upgrading my own computer. Right now even if we can get your setup working it's kind of like getting a bluray player to work on a black and white television. It might work but 90% of the content is missing.

Though I'll admit I would probably figure out a way to play the game on a netbook if I had to just to chat in the various channels.

My Dell laptop has an ATI 9100 and I was able to use the Omega Drivers v3.8.252 from the Archive section of that site and was able to get into the game.

Since it's an eight year old laptop, I don't even try to game on it. I occasionally use it to get in and chat in global channels if I'm away from home, or use it to position a character on my main account for having screenshots taken from the second account on my main computer.

Be sure to uninstall everything first and use a program like Driver Sweeper to get rid of the remaining files before installing the new drivers.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
