So I don't think I'm playing my Bots/Traps optimally
So I run in in bodyguard mode with about 27% defense. I want to ensure that my traps are set off, so I basically drop right in the middle of the group and lay traps. As soon as they attack me, the Bots go nuts. This obviously puts them in melee more than they probably should be, but they are still kicking butt.
What is the best way to keep the bots and range and still make 100 sure your awesome traps are being set off? Or is the way I'm doing it ok? |
I prefer to run in and drop poison trap myself.
I'm a big fan of running in on bodyguard, and dropping poison trap. While the mob is choking, I usually have enough time to drop at least one trip mine. I very rarely have to re-summon using this method, as it doesn't matter if you're in melee range when everything's dead. Against particularly tough foes, I usually spend more time kiting and using caltrops and web grenade to keep everything at range, but the -regen on poison trap is crucial against tough foes with tons of hp.
Provided that you're not constantly having to re-summon, I don't think you really need to worry about your playstyle. In fact, there are going to be times when you may want to keep your bots in melee range. I try to keep close to anything that uses a lot of AOE attacks when you're at range.
How are you only running 27% def? is that including protectors??
At the moment I have 45% to all positions and so does my pets... i run in middle hit web envelope and drop trap, mortar, caltrops and start mining.

Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)
To clear up confusion, I'm only lvl 32.
Oh....... in that case you want to use this.
/Macro Goto petcom_all goto
i think that's right, you can choose the place that the bots stand... run in yourself(stay within BG range) and if you are hit they will open fire.

I'm a toe-bomber with my Bots/Traps. So long as your Bots aren't dropping like Zombies, you're golden (considering that they've got 11-12% more defence than you, they're probably fine.)
Good to see that I'm not doing anything horrendously inefficient.
My two biggest fears are making the bots melee too much and having them to be too close to the mobs to properyly utilize their AoE.
I had FF Gen 6 slotted, Weave 5 slotted and Maneuvers 4 slotted. If you 6 slotted each with SOs you would be at 28.3. So your in the ball park defense wise.
I think at this stage of the game all you pretty much should be doing is have the pets attack as you run in to drop Poison trap.. Or set up poison traps and followed by caltrops so poison traps goes off as the mobs charge in to attack after you command pets to attack and the caltrops help keep them at bay a bit..
You just don't have the Defenses atm to take a alpha hit. I consider Mastermind late bloomers. You will have some defense caps before 41, but picking up Scorpion shield at 41 is pretty much a big turning point.. It is at this point many of your Defenses cap out just by slotting SOs..
So I think the build is good. I'm assuming you have what I mentioned. Your tactics for this level are off though..
This is what I am assuming..
