Demons/Dark Guide

Hi Forumites

Reknowned as you all are for your helpful and sage advice to those who dismally fail at searching and cannot create their own effective builds, I am currently levelling 9 and surprisingly enjoying) a DS/DM mastermind.

I can control the pets (to a degree) and have as yet caused only minimal team wipes - although this is largely in part to mostly playing solo atm

Does anyone out there have a guide for a tough and survivable DS/DM MM to give me some guidance on what powers are skippable and how to slot these pet things that insist on following me around?

Thanks

I posted a few pages back a soft-capped, decent recharging Demon/Dark 'Tankermind' concept, it got tweaked a bit by a few users, and I went with the end outcome.

Shes quite survivable and very fun to play, i'll dig it up and edit this post accordingly when i have time (off ot work now)

But it really depends how you want it to go, what you want to aim for. And (depending what degree of control you have over pets already) Learn the joys of Bodyguard mode.

The Tankermind theory seems good to me as I favour wading into fights... I will investigate this bodyguard mode you mentioned!

Thanks

It aint cheap, and I haven't finished it yet (just missing the recharge based stuff, a purple or 2, but its very fun.

Bodyguard Mode basically dishes out damage you recieve to your pets, it makes you really survivable.

Use "petcom_all Follow Defensive"

However this has a few seconds delay.

"Petcom_all Goto Defensive" gives you a targeting reticle to place, and engages BG mode straight away.

Excellent thanks Jamie - I see you have 6 slotted Provoke in there - is there a specific reason for this as it is a power I have never used before?

Thanks

Provoke is a cornerstone of all good tankermind builds. As a tankermind, you WANT all guns/bad sh*t pointed at you.

While in BG mode, the dmg you recieve is basically split 7 ways between you and all your pets. It greatly increases your survivability and enables you to tank dang near anything. But, if a mob turns around and punches one of your baby demons in the face, they get hit with the full dmg and eat it individually. Which is bad obviously.

So, what you want to do is stay in BG and taunt all mobs around you while spaming the dark heal. Also don't forget about all the really great crowd control tools that dark has.

Working toward the softcaps also helps alot for tankerminds. If the dmg is being split between all the pets, then each pet's individual resists/mitigation factors into how much of the entire amount is mitigated.

When playing a tankermind, what about all the mez effects that a standard mm is not immune to? Do you just circumvent them with enhancement sets?

Why is it surprising that it is enjoyable. Demons are enjoyable. Dark is enjoyable. So it's guarenteed to be enjoyable.

Further to Jamies build above - if there much scope for slotting for more Regen/Recovery or is it pretty pointless in a MM and slots are better spent beefing up defences?

Thanks

I'm still pretty new to masterminds, but I was under the impression that damage directed to henchmen from BG mode was untyped and thus not mitigated by their resists and such. My understanding is that the MM's personal mitigation is taken into account before the redirect happens, but not the pets. Is this wrong?

This how I understood it as well. I'm not sure if the damage is untyped, but I'm pretty sure whatever damage they suffer from damage you take in bodyguard mode is not resisted at all. So if you are taunting, the only damage your pets will resist is any AoE damage directed at you that also hits them.
