Help FAST Please! Primary/Sec for duo
Try Earth/Rad, fun set
Thanks for suggestion/advice. I had to move fast and decided to go Fire/Cold for symmetry with the fire/ice blaster. The new player is my spouse and we will not really be looking to max these toons out, so a little RP should be fine. I can hear it now - - - 'Oh, you run hot and cold too? It seems we were destined for each other!"
If anyone has advice on the Fire / Cold combo I will listen with very open ears.

Fire and Cold are easy sets to pick powers for.
Fire Control the must have powers are Char, Fire Cages, Hot Feet and Flashfire. Char is the ST hold which any controller who goes without deserves a permanent Kick Me sign on thier back. Fire Cages for setting up containment. Hot Feet for rocking the damage output. Flashfire is your AoE hard control with a short cooldown, combine with Fire Cages so they can't bumble around and you basicly have an AoE hold.
Cold is also easy. You intend to group and you already have an insanely expensive toggle in Hot Feet so the only power easy to skip is Snow Storm. SS is a nice power but it suffers from being yet another drain on your end when you have Hot Feet going and it is an anchored power which means somebody is always drawn to the "Oooo that one is glowing kill it first!"
Some folks might suggest skipping Frostwork but since you plan on duoing with a Blaster I suggest taking it. Blasters can use all the protective buffing they can get.
As for Fire, I would make sure that you get Char, Fire Cages, Flashfire, Cinders and Fire Imps as essential for a duo with a Fire Blaster. Hot Feet is a great power, but it will require you to go into melee and uses a lot of endurance (I would not run a Fire Controller without Hot Feet, but for your duo, it is not essential.) Seriously consider taking Bonfire, as it can give you some nice protection from melee attacks (Bonfire is a location targetted AoE knockback that can be used as a barrier or at your feet to knock foes away from you.) Smoke and Ring of Fire are optional . . . I would rank Smoke higher than Ring for your duo.
As for Cold . . . I haven't played the set high enough to give much advice on it. Sleet is the best power in the set . . . functionally the same as Storm's Freezing Rain.
Personally, I probably would have gone with Illusion/Cold if you really wanted a */Cold character. I understand you were in a hurry to choose . . . for domestic tranquility. For a first Controller, I usually recommend an Ill/Rad because the build is so flexible and fairly forgiving, and gets many of the best powers early in the set. (I have a guide on that combo, too. -- you may want to take a look at the section of my guide that talks about Controllers in general.)
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

/Cold is definitely a great choice. It's pretty much a better /FF in my opinion. However, since your partner is a Blaster, Force Bubble may be extremely handy for you both. In case you don't know what it does, it's a toggle and basically puts a huge repel bubble around you.
I would still recommend /Cold, just because Heat Loss and especially Benumb's -regen is crucial if you 2 want to take on AV's by yourselves.
I recommend Plant Control for a first Controller. It gets its good powers early, does decent damage, and is pretty much smack in the middle of all the control sets in terms of damage/mitigation.
IMO Fire Control is one of the harder control sets to pick up unless you are only going to be duoing. Fire Control has great damage but very little flexibility. It tends to either be great or asbolutely terrible, depending on the circumstances. For one thing, it is the only control set in which all of you controls can be canceled by a single power (Dispersion Bubble, Sonic Dispersion or Force Field Generator, which protect from stun, hold, and immobilize). On top of that delivering damage is largely dependant on your melee survial skills. In my experience the other control sets have less variability in performance. Though don't let me discourage you; you may still enjoy it.
For a secondary, you pretty much can't go wrong with Radiation, with any primary.
I would have said ill/rad or fire/rad.
Help!! Never ran a controller before. Need to duo with a friend, a completely new player running Fire/Ice Blaster. just need the Primary and Secondary please.
