Best tanker for Controller?

Hi, doing level pack with a buddy, he is going to be Earth/FF, and was wondering what would be the best tank that would benefit the most from the combo?

Was thinking maybe Fire/Elec, to get the most out of Burn, but already have an Ice/Elec tank, but open to suggestions (even if its a different AT)

With your friend playing such a defensive controller you might want to consider plaing a scrapper or possibly a blaster - I think somthing like a fire/shield scrapper would really synergize well with an earth/FF controller.

This would be a moment where I would make a Sandman concept with a Dark/Dark tank. Change the graphic colours to earthy colours.

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

I agree with Star.

Once your friend gets to level 20, or 22 depending when you pick it. Dispersion Bubble will be causing him to output 18% defence buff to you (unenhanced). combined with the -tohit in some of Earth powers your chance fo getting hit will be slim if you use a defence based secondary.

You could play a tanker, but shields on a scrapper is pretty agro hungry, Earth has -def, and shields covers its only damage buffing quite well.

That being said, I recon you could get more mileage out of your friend being Earth/Cold Domination, and you being *something AoE*/Shields.

There is something to be said about him going with /FF if you take shields and go with grant cover. Likewise, if you did want a tank, Shield would be the one that would be the most useful for the lack of offensive force manipulation that FF has. And FF has a good panic button and as a duo, you shouldnt become too infuriated with intangable.

I would agree with this. Cold dom has a nice recovery power, has the shields, and has a very nice +HP power. You can turn a scrapper into haveing 3k HP. fm/sd, dm/sd, or electric/sd scrap.

fire melee has a nice mix of AoE damage, and great ST attacks for bosses, DM has great ST dmg and with shield charge everything up to +3 minions are one shot, and LT's will die with one more attack. Electric melee/Sd with SC+LR everything except bosses will be dead, and the bosses will be at half helth or lower.

Also cold dom has snow storm so those remaining bosses will be drastically slowed/ -rech.

I'll agree with everyone else, if your friend's rolling an Earth/FF controller then you should roll a high damage character... the Earth/FF 'troller will provide MORE than enough mitigation to make a tank unnecessary.

I'd probably roll either a Fire/Shield scrapper or a Fire/* blaster for a duo with that controller. Your buddy will handle the crowd control and aggro, you'll just bring the pain. For that you'll want the most AOE damage output you can get; that's a Fire/Shield or Elec/Shield scrapper or a Fire blaster of some description.

Alternately you could roll a Fire/Rad controller... in the mid-late game that duo would be quite competent.

Actually, I don't recommend going Fire/ Scrapper. Reason? Your only useful AoE is Fire Sword Circle, you don't really have anything else. If you want AoE, go with Spines for Scrapper. If you really want to stay within the Tanker Archetype, I would say Fire/Fire for the 2x BU and massive AoE's.

Personally, I would recommend going with a Scrapper. Any secondary you pick should be fine with Bubble's strong defense buffs, possibly even roll Spine/Fire or Spine/Elec.

Having played both a Fire/Shield and Spine/Regen scrapper let me say that the Fire/Shield dramatically outclasses the Spine/Regen in damage output, both single target and AOE. Fire Sword Circle recharges quickly and deals significant damage... additionally you have Shield Charge for more massive AOE goodness coupled with the damage buff of Against All Odds.

hehe. before I got heavey into my bs/sd I said "hey let me test which one farms faster." I go get my spines/sr. tested... I have only logged her once since. She is great for other things, but when shield charge can out damage both spine burst and throw spines combined... Yeah there was no going back.

However I roled a fm/da scrap, and his base damage with fulcrum shift was hitting for about as much as broad sword enhanced. mind you my bs/sd is IO'ed and 50, this fm/da was in the teens with no nothing.

Makes me wonder about a fire/sd, but I just have too many works in progress.

This pretty much nails it. For that combination, I would get either a Blaster or Scrapper to pair with. Since Earth/FF offers no healing, a scrapper with healing and resistance would "layer" very nicely, so New_Dawn's suggestion of */Dark scrapper is a very good one.

You could also consider */Regen, */Fire, */Elec, or even */Willpower

Blasters work very well with controllers since you can "hold" a spawn and "nuke" it with AoEs, but takes a little more practice on timing controls with AoEs.
