What do you use for custom sounds?
I changed the peacebringer WHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRR sound to silence.

I changed the level up sound to the old EverQuest "DING" sound which I like a lot more. I also changed the Glowie sound to Homer laughing. It makes it much easier to find the glowie and it's so annoying that I have to click it asap just to shut it up.

...or is that the Renault SF? I always get them mixed up.
I changed the Assault Rifle burst and slug sounds both to sounds of shots fired by a M240. The sniper rifle sound is the sound of a .50 cal with the cartridge pinging off the floor afterwards.
The Sonic blasts I changed to sounds that I don't find quite as annoying. Shriek is a sound effect from the old X-Men cartoon of Banshee yelling while carrying Wolverine. It amuses me. Scream is another sound bite from that episode. Shout is the sound of a jet passing overhead with a sonic boom in the middle.
The weird whalesong-like sound from Forcefields got the silent treatment from me, ditto with the ridiculously loud and overpowering Portal Corp portal sounds. I can't tell you how many times I got into sound loop crashes due to that sound effect before I changed it.

MM Botz footstomps now sound like rubber duckie squeaks, the MM Lt Demon RAWR is an child's giggle, And about half of Sonic sounds like wind chimes or birds.
Oh, and the Portal Corp portals are blessedly silent.

I silenced a lot of sounds. A LOT. I didn't change any to sound like something else. I may change the glowie sound sometime, because lately I've had a terrible time tracking it down unless I turn the volume way up, which makes everything else REALLY LOUD AND HURTS MY EARS, HOLY CRAP. Or maybe I'll just figure out what the file is and use a sound editor to make it louder and keep the noise itself... just louder. It's not a bad noise, it just gets...lost.
I silenced the "that power is not recharged, moron!" noise. That was actually the first one I did way, way, way back when, when I first found that thread. That sound is f#&@ing annoying.

OK I have to ask a silly question. How exactly do you change the sounds? Is it something simple you change under Options in the Menu? Or is it something more complicated that requires understanding how the program works? I know I would like to change a few things to avoid sound glitches but I'm not very computer savvy.

That's the link Red Valk posted up there. This is all you'll need to know, though you may need a sound editing program as well.
Ah thank you. I didn't see Red Valkyrja's post when I first scanned this thread.

I like to customize the game sounds somewhat to my personal tastes. Sometimes it works well, like changing the sonic blasts to different things... to less useful, like changing the sonic blast Howl to something else which then makes all the Werewolves sound like jet engines. Very annoying.
What do you change, and what do you change it to?
