What is the best taunt aura for scrappers?

So if I wanted to leverage AOE, which defense set with it's aura would ensure that mobs cluster around me the most?

I raised exactly the same question as you one year ago. I then unslotted my Spine/DA, rerolled her into Spine/Invuln with soft cap S/L (with one mob close), and she's probably my favorite character right now. I couldnt stand the mobs running away.

/WP and /Shields also have a taunt aura. /WP taunt aura is supposed to be weaker, /Shield has apparently the same stats as /Invuln for that matter. Right now I would say that /Shield is the best pick for AoE Farming, not only due to Shield Charge, but also to the taunt aura.

Invuln or Shield.

I'd give the edge to Shield because it's taunt aura is also a damage boost for you. Only downside is you can't use Spines with Shield, so Electric becomes your best choice for AoE.

Actually, AAO is, hands down, the best taunt aura in the game. Why, you may ask? Quite simple: it has the best taunt aura mag and duration for maximum taunt effect and it has a debuff attached to it (which doubles the threat generated by it). Couple that with the fact that you're also dealing more damage, and it's quite obvious why you can peel hate off of Tanks with no problem.

Now, the issue with this is that taunt auras don't actually force enemies to stand there and attack you. The only reason that people seem to think they do so is because they continually generate threat on targets around them so that threat decay doesn't make an enemy run back to their spawn point. They are just as likely to run away as normal. The only difference is that they'll just be more likely to attack you than your friends if you have friends nearby.

Invuln and Shield are identical in their taunt auras to the tanker versions; both hold aggro like glue.

Shield is easier to softcap and will do considerably more damage; Invuln at the softcap is a bit tougher. That said my BS/Shield scrapper is tough enough to handle main tank duties on the ITF... it isn't quite as good at aggro management as a good tanker but it can do the job if you know what you're doing.

I can swear I remember a conversation with Castle where someone asked "What level of threat has to be generated to override the mob's desire to run away?" to which he responded "It's different for every mob."

This leads me to believe that you can force the mobs to stick close to you with enough threat, but damned if we'll know how much that is. Shield's taunt aura, along with the debuff/extra damage, will generate more threat than anything else in this game, so that's clearly the best shot at it.

The biggest problem I encountered with spines/elec is enemies running away when they're low health. I picked up Provoke from the presence pool and it has helped out tremendously. It's also nice to be able to help out aggro-happy squishies.

I cant say I see much running from my Spine/Invul, and I love the +tohit in invince, means I get the 5% chance of BU proc that is only active when foes are in range

From my experience, SD by FAR.

I think the comparison has problems where Spine/Inv would likely create the most threat but as SD cant have spines with any other primary SD would be the best
