First attempt at stoner

GhoulSlayer

I don't play very many melee toons. So go easy on me this is my first attempt at a stoner. Whattyall think? Don't worry too much about the order. I rarely if ever follow it. I'm more concerned about the power choices and slotting.

This seems to be "let's slot some nice sets" without a coherent plan.

What are you looking to achieve ?

Teaming/soloing ?

Traditional brute or more of a tank ?

Looks like you're going to be in granite all the time, so you don't need the -KB IOs, granite and rooted cover that.

No movement power, would really recommend teleport. Combat jumping cannot be active at the same time as granite or rooted, so not recommended.

Granite is a power that gives both defence and resists, slot it for both.

What would I do ? Decide whether I wanted offensive or defensive slotting first up. For an offensive build, I'd then slot for +rech and +dam, but I'd then want fault as an aggro grabbing and mitigation tool.

I'd also consider taking minerals so that in an emergency, I can switch to rock armor, rooted, tough, weave, minerals to face psi foes which granite is useless against.

For a defensive build, I'd do something like this (well to be exact I'd also take out some of the epic TAoEs as well, but I can see why you might want to keep them), with softcapped S/L defence, and the others up high 30s low 40s too:

I think you are going to be spending a lot of time eating carpet with this build. I am going to assume that you want to be in granite most of the time since you skipped crystal and brimstone. With that assumption you need to slot granite for resist also so you can get smash/lethal to 90%. This is one of the most important things for a stoners survivability. Also, you aren't going to be able to move around very well unless you have a kin in your pocket, swift helps this as well as teleport. CJ and hurdle are absolutely useless for you.

As far as slotting IO's you should try to overcome granites penalties first and slot for run speed, damage and recharge. I did them in that order and also added +health and +regen where I could get it.

There are some good guides over in the tanker section to read. Look for the ones by Roxstar and EsoKujo, both are excellent even though the predate IO's. Another good guide is by GrudgeRockhorn which does cover IO's.

As I stated, this is my first attempt at stoner. Also, I've never gotten any melee toon past 38 (except my 50 claws/sr scrapper). The toon in question is only 18 atm. I didn't realize I couldn't use cj with granite. Yes, I prefer defensive toons. I understand why you suggested tp (it's for moving between mobs with granite on), but I'm 18 months away from the City Traveler badge. I won't be able to take tp without taking another power from the set first. I have ninja run therefore I don't need a travel power but if you could suggest a power to drop in it's place I could take tp. I modified your build slightly to compensate for the inability to get tp and to add more end redux and rech, as well as, set bonuses. I don't understand why you would use a normal IO when you could get more benefit from using set IOs in their place.

Just a few minor tweaks to add teleport and swift. I did drop static discharge since it is a long cone and I always find it annoying to have to move back away from mobs that are clustered around you to get the best use out of it.

I don't understand why you would use a normal IO when you could get more benefit from using set IOs in their place.
Because if I've slotted every piece of a set that has recharge in it and I want more recharge, I need to slot a common IO to make it up. Earth's embrace you want a lot of heal and a lot of recharge, you could slot the heal/rech and heal/end/rech from 2 sets, but I preferred to get the 3 slot bonus from numinas and add a common recharge.

Also by taking out the common IO def out of granite and adding a triple, you move too far away from the ED cap for defence, which to hit fully with 3 enhancements you need set def, random set double, common IO def, although set def and 2 set doubles gets close as I did with the aegises.

Too guilty of looking at the set bonuses and not seeing the overall plan, which is why I don't like to use other peoples' builds unless I absolutely get what they're trying to achieve.

Also I agree with Gruumch, losing static discharge might be a good idea. Maybe get either the epic ST attack or hurl boulder.

It's true. This game is NOT rocket surgery. - BillZBubba

Just one other thing I like to throw out there for my stone/stone brute is the way I slot Fault

Stupefy: Acc/Recharge
Stupefy: End/Stun
Razzle Dazzle: Acc/Recharge
Razzle Dazzle: Acc/Stun/Recharge
Force Feedback: Chance for +recharge
Explosive Strike: Chance for Smashing Damage

set bonuses gained: 2.5% recovery from Stupefy and 2% recovery form Razzle Dazzle.

This slotting has always worked well for me and the procs help a lot. There is also the Perfect Zinger proc you could slot in there for a little more damage, but you would have to lose one of the set bonuses.
