CHANGE IN COSTUME CONTESTS ANNOUNCEMENT
First of all, I would like to thank all of you that have come out so often to our weekly costume contests. There have been a great many winners since we started these in July of 2010 and a whole lot of great costumes. The fact that people continue to come out to these keeps The American Legion motivated to keep bringing the contests to the server and hopefully give everyone a fair chance to win something.
Beginning next week; we will no longer hold the Tuesday night themed contests. We will be moving these contests to Thursday; following our regularly scheduled Thursday night contests. So we will still be hosting the same number of contests per week; we are just going to condense them into one night. The reason for this is twofold: it frees up a day of the week for any other group or player that may want to host a weekly event and it also frees up our SG members from feeling obligated to come out and judge three nights a week. I would like to go on record publicly here thanking each of the members of the American Legion who have donated their time and influence every week for over a year to make these contests a success.
The way the Thursday night contests will work is simple. Every Thursday at 10 PM Eastern; we will host a non-themed costume contest just as we have done every Thursday since July 2010. There will be a grand prize winner and honorable mentions named. Following the conclusion of that contest; an announcement will be made about the themed contest which will begin no sooner than ten minutes after the first contest but probably more like fifteen minutes. This will give any contestants that were at the first contest a brief interlude to perhaps switch characters to fit the theme; or doctor up a costume so that they can participate in the themed contest. The themed contest grand prize will be greater than the non-themed contest. The usual prize amount for the non-themed contest is 100 Million. The usual themed grand prize will be 150 Million. I will increase these prizes at times based on turnout, quality of contestants, or any other special circumstance. Honorable Mentions will always receive a minimum of 25 Million.
For this week our regular Thursday night contest will be held on Thursday night 10 PM Eastern. The first of our multiple costume contests will be next Thursday, January 12, 2012.
Once again; thank you all for participating in these contests! See you around the City!
Look forward to the new changes.
Bright and Shiny,
American Wonder

Themes will still be announced a week in advance. But someone may have a costume that fits the theme on a different character. Or they may need to go to the tailor to load a costume. Or if the theme is simple enough; which some are; it gives those that did not check the forum ahead of time a chance to compete.
OK, gotcha. I thought it would be kind of odd to annouce the theme with only a few minutes notice. Glad to see I was misunderstanding.

I am sorry that you did not agree with the winner of the CC. I am aware that a few people didn't. We cast our votes secretly, and the person with the most votes wins. Legion ( or host) only votes to break a tie. That's how we have done these for over a year and a half. Sometimes everyone agrees with the winner, sometimes they don't. It happens.
As far as the other question goes, we have had a rule in place for much longer than we have been doing the CC's, at minimum of 4 years (cause that's how long I've been in the group) At our events (excluding sg and coalition events) our members are not allowed to participate. Even on an alt. If one of our members needs influence, there are much simpler ways of giving it to them. If they want recognition for a great costume, we hold sg only CC's . For the very reason we do not allow them to compete in the weekly CCs. We run a fair contest the best way we know how. There isn't debate over the contestants between all or even a select few of the members and its not decided by just one particular person's opinion. On large turnout nights, especially when (like last night) there are a ton of great costumes, the votes tend to be spread out more. So some nights, one vote can make a difference. I am sorry that you or anyone else was not happy with the results. To that I can only say, better luck next week. If you choose not to participate any further, I am sorry that you have come to that conclusion. |
Thank you AW for a non-venomous explanation. I'm glad the first impression was incorrect and have deleted my prior comments from this thread...again thank you.
