I would(did) go kinetics. I built for recharge in IOs. Hail is up nearly at the start of every group, but at the least, during every group. With fulcrum shift, it kills pretty much everything. My build was not made for being awesome alone, so I have not tried farming. I am pretty sure it could be a farm build if I live through the alpha(no defense). Other than that, I like the combo very much.
I have a Dark/DP defender. Thus my opinion might be a little biased. However be that as it may he is a powerhouse. For a defender that is. He's taken on numerous EB's (haven't tried any AV's yet) and he's only level 27. You won't be able to dish out the damage that a DP/Kin could, but you will be able to travel slow and steady and barring a random stunning, nothing could beat ya.
Just my opinion.
I took DP/Kin... Kin has great synrgy with the debuffs of DP... Siphon speed and Cryo, Siphon Power and Chem.... With two DP/Kin teamed, the mobs are pretty much cake, choose how you want to deal with them, either slow them or damage debuff and have much fun.
It's hard to toss the KB of regular rounds out the window sometimes though... Just fun watching them all get knocked around.

Honestly, any of the three will be good for DP, although for different reasons. DP/'s debuffs are not uber, and won't take the place of a good debuffing secondary (/dark, /rad) - but the damage and recharge buffs you'll see in /kin may also assist with the middle-of-the-road damage output you'll see on it.
