I've been away a few days. I do plan on taking Challenge and Provoke on my Emp/Sonic.

Running AVs was the only shortcoming of the various Emp teams I've been on. Usually you can just walk with them and shoot them. Since I can't get a nice Immobilize with Sonic blast I'll see how the Taunt plan works
From playing with Provoke on my Fire/Traps you probably won't need both Provoke and Challenge. Provoke recharges fast as is (even moreso with Hasten/Adrenaline Boost) so you can spam it.
