Looking for help on final build on 50 mind/bub

I have a mind/bub I just hit 50 on after slowly leveling mainly by consistent TFs. Concept-wise, I chose the 2 powers to best reflect a telepath/telekinetic. Force Field feels under-powered, especially when it's shielding cousins sonics, cold, and thermal all have debuffs, but those are the breaks. Currently have psi epic, but not sure if psi tornado is worth it. I took World of Confusion hoping to be a confusion machine, but it doesn't seem to have a high chance of effect or just effects minions.

Anyways, now 50 and looking for suggesstions on build directions. Only big caveats is hover or fly (vet enough to get fly at 6) and only epics that make sense for concept is psi or fire (pyrokinesis). I am not great with IO builds despite my veteran status and mainly rely on SOs, common IOs, and some sets. But looking to change that. Not sure what bonuses to focus on. Can u softcap defense on a bubbler efficiently?

Anyway thanks in advance for any suggestions. I know mind/bub isn't the strongest combo, but would like to make her effective.

My Mind/FF hasn't hit 50 yet. So other than looking ahead, I don't have any direct experience at level 50. But I have a lot of experience with controllers and the APP sets.

I plan on trying two builds on my Mind/FF: One with the Primal set, mostly because Power Boosted Mass Confusion and/or Terrify should be sick. Mind has more powers that will benefit from Power Boost than any other controller primary. The AoE on Primal is a little weak, however, so this would be more of a team build. Conserve Power will certainly be nice. The shield is resistance-based, so not as useful. Concept-wise, Primal is pretty neutral since there are no significant graphics to the powers.

On the other build, I'm deciding between Ice and Stone -- mainly because they have defense-based shields. With those sets, it should be easier to softcap to Smash/Lethal. Ice has great AoE damage with both Ice Storm and Frost Breath, and has a great "panic button" power in Hibernate. Earth has a great heal, but the attacks may be a problem -- Hurl Boulder is very slow, Fissure has a very short range and Seismic Smash hits hard but only in melee. I tend to play this character more at range so I will probably go with Ice, but If I liked more melee I'd probably go with Earth.

Psi would probably be my last choice. The best power in Psi is Indomidible Will, but since Dispersion Bubble gives you protection from Holds and Stuns, you don't need that mez protection as much as other builds. Also, Mind mainly does Psi damage, which is highly resisted by Robots and some other end-game foes, so getting a different damage type would be a good idea. The Shield is Resistance-based, so not as helpful. And World of Confusion is pretty much worthless.

Fire provides damage, but not much else for this character. Still, if you wanted to fit in the medicine pool, Fire might be a good choice by taking Fire Blast and Fireball, then the two medicine powers. The Shield is another Resistance-based one, the Rez is a luxury and Consume is situational.

I have just jumped over from years of playing a scrapper and am trying a mind/FF controller for the first time. Here's my build idea for it. Its not tweaked out and could use some improvements I'm sure but it does seem very fun and playable so far and is manageable with endurance, etc.

It's not the cheapest build in the world but far from the most expensive.

I've taken some advice from others who have mind/ff trollers and it seems Primal is a very popular epic pool because of the huge boost it gives to mass hypnosis, confuse, etc. In the end, however, I chose ice because of the defense/resist and, in theory (not sure if it will actually play out like this in the real world), I envision being able to use the slows from ice over a large area to maintain distance between me and the enemies and force them to use range attacks. With this build, I can reach the range cap easily enough and also get the S/L pretty high. As a Controller, I figure I will team a lot and should more times than not be able to receive S/L buffs from teammates that will make my S/L defense near or at the cap too (it seems to be a very common team buff).

I did not choose Hibernate just because of the personal force field.

You can softcap range on a mind/ff pretty easily if you went with either fire or psi mastery. I'd try to work in some aoe def in there too as well, if you kite or hover and keep out of range you should achieve pretty good survivability with a mix of those defenses and your resistance shields. I'd go fire for a different damage type.

If you picked ice or earth mastery you can softcap range and s/l, which is pretty huge.

Given that you said you want to stick to concept, I would drop Psi for Primal. I think it fits the Mind/FF concept very well.

Primal will basically increase the duration of all controls by about 35%. With the long recharge on some of Mind's key powers this is very helpful. It will also allow you to outperform a FF Defender in terms of the shields you provide teammates if you cast them quickly. While it's active your big bubble is also more effective.

Another option if you ever decide to break character or someone else is reading this is to go with Cold or Stone so you can softcap melee/smashing defense. With some work you may be able to soft cap slash/lethal and ranged in one build. I've been able to do that with Ice/FF builds but not sure about Mind/FF, though due to your many single target blast powers it seems very doable. Of the two sets I'd prefer Ice for ranged AoE attacks over Earth, although Earth offers a modest heal and can cap your hit points.

And don't worry too much about other sets seeming more powerful. I've played both FF and Sonic to high levels and IMO Force Field is the better of the two. Sonic gets some debuffs but the shields are less than half as effective as Force Field and the endurance use is somewhat unreasonable for the benefit. Force Field is actually a very powerful set that IMO simply doesn't get the respect it deserves. The fact that you can use it as a basis for defense that can only be shut off by Sleep means that with skillful IOing you can build one of the most survivable Controllers (or Defenders) possible.

So many mentions of Primal has me doing a facepalm. Hadn't even thought of it, and I have it on my mind/emp (although more for uber fort). She's a primarily teaming/TF toon, so the aoe weakness isn't to bad a loss in contrast to power boost. Plus Primal fits the TK end cleanly. Will work up a build soon and post for opinions.

Primal is the way to go. Don't waste it on the controls, use it on the bubbles. You can bubble three teammates before power boost wears off and when you refresh those bubbles the power boost bonus sticks even when you refresh without power boost. So you can get an entire 8 man team up and running with power boosted bubbles and keep them there the whole night.

Here's a video showing just how good power boosted bubbles are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwub6qvNeD4

That combo is just seriously sick, and is a perversion of gameplay mechanics. - Excelsio
