They're still there. I guess their spawning is tied into the day/night cycle, so you won't find them all the time.
By luck I happened across a few hydrae a couple of days ago. (For them it was more like bad luck, since for some strange reason they were no longer there when I left, and I had to reload my revolvers... 
)

Isn't too long ago that I saw some of those... Think they hide in corners. But they should still be around for sure.
Try in the water where the bubbles are, just east of Lift C

Also, they are like the corralax in the Hollows, if you are too high level they won't unhide to attack you. So either you need to have an aoe you can use to hit them, or you have to be low enough level to provoke an attack.
Use all the same tricks to spot them: look for a small disturbance int eh water at the edge of your visible range as you move showing them spawn and "drop" into the water. Then look for the bubbles when you get close.

So, I was reminiscing the other night with a friend about running around in Faultline when it was new. I happened to remember running into a Hydra tentacle or something down in the water. I went looking for one today during a quick break in a Positron Part 2 and couldn't find one anywhere. I asked around and no one can remember seeing them recently.
Is it just a case of not being in Faultline at the right time, or where they removed, or what? I thought they were cool!
