PvP Powersets Help

I've been away from the game for a while, and a lot has changed since I left. I used to pvp quite a bit in Siren's Call with my Spines/Ninja and EM/Regen stalkers.

I'm starting over, on Freedom server, where there is a pvp population, with new characters. I'm debating between an EM/Electric, EM/Regen, and Spines/Regen stalker.

I'm unsure if /Electric is any good, as resist sets were always ineffective for stalkers, but it does have a heal so I'm not sure if that's changed anything.

I have a Fortunata, so I have my fill of defense based characters for now.

Playing with Mid's, /Regen and /Willpower seem to lose benefits wtih stalkers because of the low HP cap, unless Hero Builder is not working properly? This is the only reason I'm not just going with /Regen immediately.

What would you do?

If your set on Regen vs Elec, I'd go with Regen. Easy HP capping with WP is not a bad thing, as it allows you to build towards other bonuses that will help you out more, not to mention WP has advantages like Repel resistance and Perception. But between Elec and Regen, Regen is overall better.

And Elec Melee is still hitting like a bus. You may want to consider that for a primary.

"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. If we knew that was the actual voice devs would listen to instead of informed, educated players we probably would have been bigger dicks back then." -ConFlict

Elec/WP is my pvp set of choice.

I just don't understand why /electric armor isn't as good, or better than the others. 40% resistance to just about all damage is the equivelant of 40% extra HP, right? Add a heal to that and it seems like a solid set.

What makes Willpower and Regen better?

Well first of all there's DR (Diminished Returns) so there might not be quite that much resistance (would have to check though, I'm not sure about the numbers off the top of my head).

/Elec's heal is also on a relatively long recharge in comparison to Reconstruction. But I think most of the reasons that Regen and WP are considered better is because of some of the inherent utility in the sets. Regen has a lot of tricks up it's sleeves, with many ways to heal back or avoid damage. WP has built-in +Perception and some decent resistances to back it up. Then there's KB. /Elec doesn't have KB resistance, only KB protection in Grounded. A lot of toons in PvP back some serious KB, plus there's the fact that Grounded only provides protection to KB on the ground. Since almost everyone takes SS/SJ for PvP movement, anytime an /Elec would leave the ground would leave them very vulnerable to a Knockback attack followed by a spike. An Elec stalker would have to build for large amounts of KB protection to prevent this, whereas a WP or Regen would be immune to KB because they have something like 10000% resistance to it.

That's why I would think that /Elec isn't very good in PvP. I use an Elec/Regen Stalker to PvP occasionally, though I haven't finished his build yet. It's rather nice to not have to worry about getting 41 points of KB protection while having several reliable heals and MoG to fall back on, on top of being able to phase, even if it's just long enough for Recon to recharge back up.

/elec gets a bad wrap...it's not as bad as people make it out to be. It has a heal which is important. You are not fight clubbing with a stalker so you have time to let it recharge, that's what placate and hide a for. It also has some advantages, especially for zone PVP like teleport resist, end resist and slow resist. I run with an EM/Elec and I really like it. I also have an Elec/Ninja, and a Spine/WP. But if you don't go with /Elec I would take WP over regen.

Elec is honestly a really bad secondary for Stalkers, and always has been, just for different reasons. Prior to I13 it was nice on Brutes for dueling Therms/Storms/EM Stalkers/whatever else was packing energy damage or end drain or whatever) but DR wrecked that, and the 75% resist cap of Stalkers (versus 90% for Brutes) meant even with Power Surge up a Stalker was still relatively squishy.

Sure, Energize is nice, but it doesn't recharge as quickly as you'll want if you're constantly in and out of action. The problem is that Elec as a whole has nothing that's useful for a Stalker - it lacks perception, +HP, repel protection, and reliable/good KB protection. Its real gimmicks are end drain/-recovery resistance (which a few blues will fix assuming you're around long enough to even get hit with such a power) and TP protection (which is fixed by simply staying out of TP Foe range of the other side's base). Every melee AT gets some debuff protection (tohit, def, rech, whatever else) in their status protection power as of I13 so the extra slow resistance given by LR isn't really unique anymore.

To the OP: don't know why you're set on EM, as Elec is far better and basically has a second AS in Thunderstrike.
