Dark Melee and Gloom
Smite has much better DPA than Shadow Punch.
On my DM/WP brute, I'm closing in on the recharge necessary for MG, Smite, Gloom, SL, repeat. But if you want to keep SP, you could add that on to the chain at the end and need less global recharge.
My biggest gripe about the first chain? It's left hand, alternates, left hand, left hand.
Gets really monotonous.
EDIT: Same problem I have with the broadsword, axe and mace. Can't stand the sets that just use one arm for everything.
Be well, people of CoH.

Makes sense, though. I mean, I use one of my arms for everything.

So I'd be looking at dialling up the global recharge for MG-Smite-Gloom-SL, huh. Just how much are we talking here? Permadom levels? Permahasten levels? Less?
Is Hasten necessary on a Dark/WP?
I liked my DM/WP scrapper better when I got soul drain down to a 32-33 second recharge. That required Hasten.

This has me looking at Gloom. If I slot Gloom up like one of my melee attacks, when the time comes to make a single-target pattern, should I let one of my extant attacks become malnourished? Smite or Shadow Punch are both in the build; could I eschew one of them in favour of Gloom, and run, say, Gloom -> Shadow Punch -> MGrasp -> Shadow Punch -> Siphon Life -> Shadow Punch? Or is it better to have Smite? Or what, exactly?

Even without the recharge to run the top chain, I'd still prefer to have Gloom as well as Dark Obliteration.
I'm not sure if you took all three, but if you have DC, Consume and Stamina you might also want to try to work Darkest Night into the build - I use it on my SS/WP and feel it can be invaluable at times..
Yeah. DC, Consume, Stamina. I'm mulling at the moment about the build, because he's going to be spending a lot of time at level 39.
Definitely go with Gloom/Dark Oblit.
With new malefactoring rules you'll still have access to both provided you take them at 41 and 44 respectively.
Edit: or Darkest Night if that's yo' thing.
The Melee Teaming Guide for Melee Mans
Having recently hit 47 on my dark melee/fire brute, I've been considering what path I want to take with him in his IOs. Right now, he has a fairly generic slotting with Crushing Impacts to make him hit more often, all of the ST melee attacks, no Touch of Fear, no taunt.
Now, while I'm slotting the character up, I realised that I don't plan on exemplaring on him very often, and that I don't really like Mu Mastery. Immob + Burn isn't something I feel the need to do. So I was thinking of hopping over to Soul Mastery.
