/Inv passive slotting

Ok heres the thing. I rolled up a fire/inv char earlier and as I almost always do went into Mids to look into builds. Now, most everyone I've talked to has said to put 2 slots in each of the passives (for a total of 3). While in Mids I noticed something: with 3 +res common IOs (lvl 35) you get 11.8%, however, with only 2 slots you get 10.8%.
So my question: Is that third slot really worth it? For a 1% difference? What do y'all'uns think?

Sometimes you get the bear; sometimes he get you, rips your head off, sucks out your eyes, pulls out your spleen, humps your leg and pees in your boots

3 slots were probably referring to SOs. Level 35 IOs are better than SOs so they can give you more bang for your buck. A 1% difference probably isn't enough to justify a slot.

2 common IOs will get you almost the same resist value, but 3 slots lets you get a hefty fire/cold defense bonus by slotting an Aegis set.

If you're still leveling the character, though, 2 slots is plenty, partly because finding low-level Aegis sets might be difficult and expensive, and partly because you can probably use the slots elsewhere.

I went with the three slots because after slotting all my sets in, I get some good numbers going before I turn on UY. So with UY and my passives working together, I'm at over 35% plus to alot stuff now (not psi though).

With SOs I'd only use one slot. Two or three only if I had slots spare after slotting everything else.

With IOs, though... There are so many options you could even justify using six slots. I'd go for one to four slots depending on what you're after. One slot for the +3% Def IO. Two for both of them (or +3% Def and any other global IO that can go there). Three for Aegis or Titanium Coating. Four for Reactive or Impervium Armour.

The list can go on as there are loads of possibilities.
