Oldest 50 Scrapper a disappointment...

So... my first 50 Scrapper was a Dual Blades/DA build. He's never really been what I had hoped he'd become I guess.

Does anyone have a build I can take a look at for this combo? I have a couple builds on Mids but nothing I'm really satisfied with, and I'm no Mids vet so I'm hoping someone can educated me a bit.

That's a rare combo that has more potential than people give it credit for.

I can't do anything at the moment, but if I remember when I get home I'll throw together a Mid's build for you.

You need to focus on a few different things to bring out your potential: End management and defense top the list, and you should work a little bit of recharge in there as well.

Sets I like for those purposes:

4xEradication/2xScirocco's Dervish in your PBAoEs (of which you have 3 in your primary)
If you take Cloak of Fear it will take Siphon Insight (an Accurate To-Hit Debuff set) 5 of those will net you some Smashing/Lethal defense.

Aegis in your armors (including Tough if you can handle the end cost of it) will give you some Fire/Cold defense.

Dark Armor's problem, aside from end usage, is that it's almost entirely resistance and not exactly huge amounts of it. It has some defense in Cloak of Darkness that doesn't suppress in combat (the same amount as Weave)

There's some debate on whether positional or typed defense is better for DA. No one has really come up with a conclusive answer because DA doesn't lean either way based on powers in the set (Cloak of Darkness gives defense to all, and so does Weave)

I'll see if I can help you out.

One further question, do you have any combo or travel power requirements I need to keep in mind with a build?

The hidden strength of DA is that it has a Weave level defense boost built into the set on top of the best PvE heal in the game. That brings you another 5% closer to soft cap defense which at high defense values is a lot of mitigation, and at low defense values is not much mitigation value.

I go for positional defense for the following reasons:

~ Gaussian's provides the full defense value to positional defense.

~ Chasing positional defense in attacks uses Mako's and Obliteration which has excellent set bonuses. Hit Points, Damage, etc. Chasing typed defense requires Kinetic Combat which provides squat in terms of extra benefits.

~ If you have the slots a full set of Red Fortune is underrated.

With Dark Armor if you aren't going after AVs and farming you can stave off stragglers with a high Ranged defense and knock off melee combatants with Obsidian Gloom or Cloak of Fear.

On the other hand if you can only chase one type of defense in the game Smashing/Lethal gives you the best bang for the buck because so many ranged and AoE attacks have a smashing or lethal component.

Very timely as I have decided that this is going to be one of my upcoming combos as well. Looking forward to see what others come up with and if I have anything different I will post.

I am slowly working on one. Seems like might be tons of fun. I'll post my planned out build when I have time.

Awesome... some much needed education here already and I appreciate that. Here's what I have been running.

I know of an awesome Dark/Fire Tank, build for defense, and in that case skipped both mez toggles. It might be something to consider as well.

Sorry it took me so long, but here's what I came up with.

All typed defenses are above 25%, and all the positionals are still higher than what you had before. Not quite endurances sustainable, but it'll take you a while to run out.

I put Cloak of Darkness in the build for a few reasons: A) It's the same amount of defense as Weave, B) It doesn't suppress in combat like other stealth's defense, and C) you can turn off the "puffball of doom" effect at the tailor now. (which I'm guessing you didn't know if you haven't had this power in a while, or ever)

Here's the build, it's kind of expensive, but if you're really rocking those Hecatombs you should be able to afford it.

I appreciate that Claws! I'm going to give it a go. Most appreciated!

And I did know about the "puff ball" option, lol. I'm not a Mids guru, but I'm an Icon addict 8)

Thanks again.

Having taken a look at claws's build, there are some options you could go for.

I like the kinetic combat KD proc for any of the ST attacks that don't already KD. This adds substantial mitigation. It also makes the sets a lot cheaper if you leave out the dam/end or triple. Adjust the non KC IOs to cope, I like makos quads as extras.

By not slotting tough and underslotting the armors slightly, you're losing about 6% S/L resist, which means you're taking about 12% more S/L damage than you need to as you had around 50% resists before.

I went a different route on my DA, I went all out for as much S/L def as I could get, without worrying so much about the others, and you can get pretty close to the S/L soft cap by doing that. Taking this approach mucking around with claws's build, I got 43.7% S/L def, 40.3% melee and about 20 to everything else. (ST atts the 4 good KCs + mako's quad, PPBAoEs 6 oblits except dam aura gets multistrikes, 4 reactive armor in all the resist toggles plus the steadfast res/def in one, the only casualty was OG, which got cut to one slot.)

No problem at all!

It's one of the many things I'm here for.

Hmmm.... thanks for the input Minotaur. I'll take a look at the build and check out your ideas. I have 2 builds saved for this one right now, lol, maybe I'll have 3 and can finally get something together on this one I enjoy playing again.

Whichever way you go, once you get medium levels of defense (and you'll have medium levels of resistance naturally since you're Dark Armor), you'll find that you now have time to use Dark Regen better. You can avoid breaking up combos, you have more leisure to wait instead of frantically stabbing it every time it's up, and you can dedicate more attention to your attacks and less to trying not to "fumble Dark Regen and die."
